Looks like the low string is an open 'drone' string. That string has it's own saddle further back on that weird angled section. That string also is is longer overall , at the nut too the string extends back further in the headstock area. I see that string also has no frets below it.. Essentially, it's a minimalist harp guitar. It's a beautiful song, a beautiful performance (and beautiful performer). But that synthesized string line really hurts the overall vibe. It's just open A with a low A string. Now, as for the singing, it is miraculous and no one should ever expect to achieve EmmLou's angelic tone.
