j45nick
I can't see or hear Slim Whitman without thinking of "Mars Attacks!", the hilarious sci-fi comedy where the earth is saved as the Martians' heads are blown to smithereens by a recording of Slim Whitman singing "Indian Love Call".... MissouriPicker
I used to kind of snicker and laugh about Slim Whitman, until I found-out that my dad knew him in the navy during WWII. It wasn't a best friend thing. They went through their basic training together, ended-up on different ships, and ran into each other a few times after. My dad likes him. Said he was a really nice fellow and used to sing even then. Saw some combat in the Pacific War. Also, I've found that Whitman never drinks, doesn't like cheating songs, has sold nearly 140,000,000 albums (yes, "million") and he was married to the same gal for almost 68-years when she passed-away. I'll probably always smile a bit when I hear his voice. I too think of Mars Attacks and music commercials from the 70's....lol...Let's face it, he's different, but the guy stays true to who he is and what he believes. He definitly is part of what The Greatest Generation represents.
