Hexeir Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 Get a better shot' date=' straight down and square with the nut.No angle shots. please....[/quote'] That's really the best I can do with my #(&^$# phone : I don't own a camera. I'll go grab one really quick.
Hexeir Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 Here ya go guys... notice the chip on the veneer (top right in this pic, on the big E side)
AXE® Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Got it..thanks. The biggest mistake most people make when they say their nut is cut wrong is... Too wide too narrow too deep too shallow.ect...All play a factor. What is overlooked by most, even so called Luthiers" is the slight angle the slots need to be for proper spacing and minimal resistance. It appears Gibson attempted to do this and failed miserably with your guitar. Damn shame your not closer I'd fix you right up... With love from my burning loins. The southern ****...
Les Paul Fanatic Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 In the first pick, it looks like the slots are cut too wide.
Hexeir Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 In the first pick' date=' it looks like the slots are cut too wide.[/quote'] If one is cut to wide, then the other kinda has to be too narrow. And that's the case. From E-A is right, from A-D is way narrow, from D-G is too wide, from G-B is right, and from B-E is right.
ALIEN8 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 is the slight angle the slots need to be for proper spacing and minimal resistance I assume the angle you mean is essentially an average between the straight portion of the string and the bent part over the headstock? Or am I just making an a$$ out of a ****?
80LPC Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Sorry to say, that's a mess - and it looks like your TR cover is cracked too.
