Silverburst Custom - Pickguard on or off?

Just seeing which one you like better. I changed the strings and took the guard off for a cleaning.

Looks pretty cool without the guard. I'm going to leave it off for a little while, but it's definitely going back on.

Sorry about the colour, the first pic was taken a while back in natural light, second pic in artificial light.

If anybody's wondering, I also lifted the pickups...

490/498...both just say "Gibson USA" on the bottom.

I voted off. Well someone has to swim against the tide! Or maybe I'm just being bloody minded. :)

Whatever, I just think bursts look better with the pickguard off, even when they are solid colour bursts. Actually I think all LP's look better naked....... just my humble opinion.

I'm surprised that both of those teardrops are so different, R9's has a tone of black in it, while siCkBoy's has more silver... either way, on...

I prefer the teardrop shaped burst. no offense, Alien.

none, taken... I was just pointing out that it would look wrong on the other style... probably why they didn't add it...

On. Beautiful guitar man. Congrats, I am always amazed at your collection, hope it keeps growing to the point that you wont have room for them and will send some to me. :-$

Cheers all!

VA_siCkBoy, nice guitar! Are those vol/tone knobs stock on yours?

Looks nice with it on' date=' OBTW I replied to your question about the PC issues, did you see it tim?[/quote']

Yes, I did...thank you. I'll give my PC a bath and let you know.

Thunder, if I ever run out of room and decide to give some away, you'll be on the top of my list.

Yes, it's all original. It was some kinda weird configuration for a custom. All mahogany, ABR1 bridge, tulip tuners, Burstbuckers, and a slim 60's neck. Kinda different but I freakin' love it!

I say on' date=' too.

I love the way the pickguard edge mimics the binding plys.[/quote']

If the pickguard was solid black, I think you could go either way on aesthetics. But, with the p/g edge matching the binding, that put me on the side of pickguard ON.

Thanks for showing it again Tim.

I think it looks good both ways but to be honest....with the multiplyed guard it looks nicer,I happen to suffer from pickguard-a-phobia and never can seem to decide if the axe looks better with or without the guard, but I have learned that if it'a highly figured wood I tend to keep the guard off,if it's a solid color, leaving the guard on is nice.

Even though yours is a silver burst I think the the guard compliments your guitar in many ways, plus it's a custom one, so putting it on lets say a $200 Epiphone would be overkill. lol

I think it looks good on,it doesn't take away from the single cut away, your burst is a teardrop burst and therefore the guard doesn't cover it up,and still looks nice.
