Cliffrlp Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Any of you guys have any feedback on this? Just picked it up, been looking for a flat / satin black Explorer with a wood grain...this fit the bill. Wanting to switch out the pickups asap, but kinda weary with this pickguard. Anyone else have this? Or feedback on the guitar? Also, can someone either show me a sticky thread or explain to me how to find out what the serial number means... it's # 025370341 Thanks!! http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-X-plorer-New-Century-Electric-Guitar-with-Carbon-Fiber-Pickguard?sku=514567 Thanks, Leor
Riffster Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 How come you want to switch the pickups? do you already have the guitar and did not like'em? The serial number simply idicates the guitar was made in 2007 (first and fifth numbers) And that it was made on the 253 day of that year (second, third and fourth number) The last 3 numbers are production numbers that will not have any meaning to you probably. The pickguard should have standard cutouts I am not sure you are weary of it, it should be OK to change pickups without a problem.
Cliffrlp Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks for the help stiffhand. The pickups are just something that are personal preference, I don't care for the one that came on the guitar. So I'll probably swap 'em out for Emgs...thanks!
Riffster Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I added covers to the pickups on mine and used oil capacitors, I also replaced the pots with 500k ohms and changed the wiring to 1 volume and 2 tones. The tone changed enough that I like the guitar quite a bit, it still has the ceramic pickup sound but I am very satisfied.
