cragginshred
I am curious as to opinions here regarding Bonamassa's signature SD pups. Anyone have them, and how would they compare to my classic 57/57plus set?

cragginshred
Does this mean you just ordered them? If so please do let me know and how they compare to say the classic 57/57plus pups and through what rig your using for context. Thanks!!
drew365
There is a thread on Mylespaul.com about these. I don't remember anyone comparing them to 57's, but pretty much everyone likes them. I just had them installed a couple of days ago into an LP copy by Carvin with a solid mahogany body, maple top, ebony fretboard, SS frets. I've only played it for a short time but it compared favorably to my LP Faded, which has Larry Corsas Manilishi pups, which I love and is my #1. I'm going to spend time this weekend getting to know them better. The real test will come next Tuesday when I take it to band rehearsal. But I won't be able to help you with how them compare to 57's. Gary Moore Tribute
I'm gonna do a good comparison (I own #0494) # The JB's with 50's Wiring & Bumbles # The 57's (PG'd) with 50's Wiring & Bumbles # The 57's with 50's Wiring # The BB2/3 with 50's Wiring & Bumbles # The BB2/3 with 50's Wiring So yeah its gonna be comprehensive! Gary Moore Tribute
Well the pups are in! Here's what I found... The JB's produce a clear sound which has a creamy feel but its LOUD!, their definitely unforgiving to the mistakes in comparison I pulled the 57's & BB2/3 combo (all bumbled, over wrapped & 50's wired) Set pots exactly the same The 57's where the darkest and where nasally than the other 2 The BB2/3 was the brightest but didn't have as much definition as the JB's did... More soon..
drew365
I spent quite a bit of time over the weekend comparing the Bonamassa pups to my LP with Larry Corsa Manilishi pups. They are both very similar, full, clear and articulate. The Manilishi's are a little hotter than the Bonamassa's. I'll be using the Bonamassa's at band rehearsal tonight, so I'll get a better feel for them. I can't crank the amp at home. Most of my playing so far has been through my Vox AD60VTX, using headphones. As of right now I'm giving a slight edge to the Manilishi's. But the two guitars are a bit different. The LP is a Faded and chambered. The Carvin LP copy is solid body with SS frets. The SS frets seem to produce a slight chiming effect which I like, but was there with the pups I took out, so I know it's not from the Bonamassa's. drew365
Just wanted to add that my Carvin CS4 with the Bonammasa pups sounded great at band rehearsal last night. They are a keeper for me. The best I can describe them is full, clear and bright without getting overly bright. My guitar teacher played it and feels they have excellent harmonics. Yeah, I started playing at 13 and still take lessons at 62! I'm slow learner. I'm happy with the Bonamassa's and figure they have turned my Carvin into a potential #1. blueslespaultone
That is awesome GMT, would love to hear a clip of those pickups against the BB2/3 combo and classic 57s. Do you like them better than the BBs and 57s?
