onewilyfool
Hey guys....whats the freight on used J-45 TV's these days....the only reason I'm investigating, is cause you guys hold these in such in such high esteem. Any help appreciated. By the way.....do all TV's have hyde glue??
RichG
Matt Umanov has one on his web site for $2K. His prices are usually high, but that's not out of line with what I have seen as ASKING prices, but I don't know what selling prices are. I'm not an eBay member, but I think there is a way to check old auctions to see the results. http://umanovguitars.com/store/item/2008-gibson-j-45-true-vintage/ Rich
Gruffchris
Again, who know's. There's one for sale in my town been on eBay for 6/7 months. He wants $2600(lol) I offered the guy 1150($1800) and said the lowest he would go was 1550 pounds($2500). I have seen standard J-45's go for 1000 pounds so personally i'd be happy to pay 1150. Gruffchris
am often jealous at the prices our murkin friends pay across the pond . Yeah me too, but even so Thomann has/had a TV b stock for 1640 before Christmas, that had been lightly played, so I wouldn't pay more for a second hand one with no warranty. There was also someone selling his j45 for 1200 before christmas, it didn't sell, I offered him a 1000 he refused, so I bought the j 30 for well.... cheap, lol. Anyway he messaged me saying I could have it for a 1000 then 950, so that's what i based my 1150 on TV. The other thing about the prices across the pond is that a lot of them(shops and sellers) on ebay will ship to the uk/eire for $100 so like 65 quid. I have about 5/6 book marked from the us. Also if there's any problems you're in lonely territory.

j45nick
On average, probably $1.7-2k in the US, depending on condition.
CrazyHeart
I paid $2,200 for a mint used one and sold it on e-bay for $2,000. Fair prices all the way around.
mking
I bought my 2007 on Ebay and paid $1850.00 and it was as in mint condition as the seller described. I know my 2007 does not have hide glue nor does it have an adi top. The fellow at Gibson told me 2007 was the last year for sitka tops. The 2008 at Umanovs looks like a nice guitar and that is a very fair price.
Guth
The fellow at Gibson told me 2007 was the last year for sitka tops. My TV is a 2008, and I'm pretty sure that the top is sitka.

mking
Guth, The 2008 for sale at Matt Umanov's store has an adi top. All I know is, the fellow at Gibson said after 2007 they went from sitka to red spruce.

Guth
Guth, The 2008 for sale at Matt Umanov's store has an adi top. All I know is, the fellow at Gibson said after 2007 they went from sitka to red spruce. I don't doubt what you were told, nor do I doubt that the TV at Umanov's has an adirondack top. I also don't doubt that the top on my TV is sitka, and from I've read over the years, mine is not the only 2008 out there with a sitka top. We are talking about Gibson after all. I mainly point this out because if someone is making their purchasing decisions based on the tonewoods they are expecting to find, they might wind up being disappointed if they are expecting adirondack and receive sitka instead. When it comes to guitars, I personally shop for the tone, not for the woods or other details of construction that some place more importance on. Salfromchatham
2007 TVs were sitka topped. 2008 saw both sitka tops AND adi tops. True dat. They switched over. I have played both - actually most of the ones I played were adi. I loved them. And I love mine. FYI I paid $1750 for mine in July 2012 (again a 2007 sitka version). The seller on AGF actually had it listed for $1700 after several mark downs. However, he spoke to me a few times on the phone, sharing his experiences with the guitar, and sending me extra pictures... I wanted to pay him more. Heck I was ready to pull the trigger when he lowered it to $1800. These J45TVs are keepers. You just have to resist the temptation to ever sell them. They will only get better with age and playing time; mine already has since i got it - I am convinced of that. Oh yeay... mine is has a glossy finish and not the VOS.
