Les Paul 12 String Electric guitar Buy or Not?

I have been looking at this 12 string Les Paul 12 string Guitar for awhile.

I have never played a 12 string guitar and felt many that have bought them gathered

dust or people have sold them?

Just wondering if I do buy the 12 string Les Paul and Not like the 12 strings

will I be able to take 6 stings off and just use the other 6 strings orrr will that be a problem?

Only reason I ask the question is that MF has the guitar New for $1399 and with the 20% off coupon MF emailed me will make the guitar cost about $1120 and I felt taking off 6 strings will not be as bad on a guitar that List over $3000 on gibsons website.Wondering if this guitar will Rock on all songs and NOT just on Led Zep and Eagles stuff.

Let me know if its worth while too buy or just keep my money since I just bought a

2012 Les Paul Deluxe Gold Top and 2012 Flying V and a 2012 SG61 RI Satin within the last 2 months.thanks allll.JT

If you don't know for sure weather or not you need a 12-string guitar, then you probably don't need a 12-string guitar.

A 12-string is a specialised instrument and you either need one or you don't.

Your question implies that this might be the wrong instrument for your needs.

Re-stringing as a 6-string is possible but the instrument would never function as a 6-string.

The nut and bridge saddles are cut differently.

I guess no matter how good of a deal that the guitar is it would just be a waste of money too me.

I guess that's why I cannot find many 12 strings of youtube and the ones I do find are playing Byrds and Lep Zep and eagles stuff.No Glitter or Punk stuff................JT

If you have a true interest in a 12 string and the things it might do for you creatively, you might try a less expensive brand of acoustic/electric guitar, just to see if it suits your needs.

Then if you don't think it works for you, you haven't invested as much money.

If it does, then eventually you might think about a more serious instrument.

I think restringing a 12 into a 6 is ridiculous. I would never consider doing that.

 

You already have a Les Paul, a V and an SG. Why in the world would you buy a 12 string only to restring it.

Same here. I love the tone that a 12 string acoustic gives so much more than a 12 string electric. I have to admit that I would love to try an EDS-1275, that thing looks like it's such a hoot to play.

Yep I can agree having my New Les Paul Deluxe GoldTop and New Flying V should make me happy.

But looking at these prices makes me want to pull the trigger again (I also bought a SG61 RI in Satin ebony that is getting dust in its case lol,,,But after reading all the helpful stuff

But it doesn't make it a good idea. Especially that you have never even played one? There is only one thing for you to do.

Go play it. And if you really like it, go play an acoustic 12 string of equal value.. and then decide.

 

12 strings are awesome man.. go play one and see if you like it.

I've played 12 strings off and on for the 45 years; bought my first one in Mexico, while I was in high school. The 12-string is really a very specialized instrument, and is an acquired taste for many players. First of all, keeping one in tune is always the biggest problem. Secondly, the additional string tension requires that much more pressure from your fingers. So unless you really want to learn to play and appreciate the 12-string, don't buy it. And taking off the extra 6 strings, which are octave-tuned on the third through sixth strings, won't simply give you a six-string guitar. The neck is wider, the nut and bridge are different, and the playing characteristics are different. Twelve-strings aren't simply six-strings with extra strings. Save the money for another guitar.

NEVER underestimate the power of a 12-string guitar ;) This particular one of mine is very special and when I play her, she sounds like Heaven on Earth!
