merseybeat1963
I dont think this is one of the "good ones" so to speak. Why do you fancy this one?
cunningham26
i kinda dig on the closed bridge look and like that it was in storage and hasn't been played to death. I dont know much about that era though- what are the complaints? here's a demo of a 63, pay no mind to phil's distracting painted fingernails haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-n6hSwPE9k

J-1854Me
I've played at least a few of the "dreaded 60s J-200s with the tune-a-matic saddle bridges" and they surprised me by how good they sounded. Don't let the picture throw you off -- play it first before passing a judgment! Fred
zombywoof
My wife's guitar is a 1960 J-200. The asking price on the '61 ain't a bargain especially considering it is a private sale. The early 1960s guitars are fine if you can live with the skinny neck profile. Starting around 1960, all J-200s were built in the Custom Department with only a handful being made a year so the build quality was as good as it got. The bridge ain't near the issue with these guitars as that nasty floating brace Gibson threw in there is. Luckly they are easily removed.
merseybeat1963
If you are near that shoppe you should A/B it verses a recent good one (TV). I thought most J200's by 1960 for example sucked..especially with laminated B& S...but I tried a 54' which was terrible but a 1960..or 59...and the best way I can describe it is it sang. Single solo lead notes sustain..I loved it. Too much Mooola though.
