Gibson in Acoustic Guitar Magazine?

I have subscribed to Acoustic Guitar Magazine for several years now and have yet to see any advertisments for Gibson guitars. Most every large (and some small) guitar maker advertises but not Gibson. Now you do see Epiphone but not Gibsons. Wonder why?

They review Gibsons and seem to do a fair job of it. I can recall recent reviews of the Southern Jumbo, J200, etc where the reviewer gave the Gibsons high marks.

Gibson probably thinks it doesn't need to advertise its products. They sell themselves because of reputation.

I like your inclusion of the word "probably" Grampa.

Perhaps Gibson "probably" ought to check out the thickness of the ice!

Reputations are strange things, difficult to get and nearly impossible to keep!

Reminds me of a joke ( I don't have many)

Class are asked for a sentence using the word "probably"

Little Toby Wilson says " The sun will probably shine tommorrow"

Very good says Teacher.

Little Albert says "My pop will "probably" take me to the cricket on Saturday

Very good says Teacher.

Little Johnny's hand goes up

"Please Miss does a fart come in lumps?"

No Dear!

" In that case I have "probably crapped myself"

Hmmmm, interesting, I too don't recall any recent mag ads...however corporations usually advertise most when things aren't going so well or they want to introduce a great new product.

Also there are numerous other ways to advertise besides magazines. Making a great product and word of mouth always works best.

And finally, thing is big guitar manufacuters sell their wares to music stores and with Gibsons reputation I imagine that goes pretty well.

Wonder why?

No big mystery. The purpose of ads is to increase demand. Demand for Bozeman-built Gibson acoustics already exceeds supply. Ergo, ads would be a waste of money.

Of course, that's a little oversimplified, since Gibson spends money promoting the brand in other ways. That money could be shifted to buying ads if they (= HJ) believed ads would be a more cost effective alternative. So a better answer is a question -- Why mess with success?

Ads for the Canadian-built "Gibson" acoustics might make sense, eh?, if and when those hosers get their act together. (No offence, eh?)

I hope Gibson doesnt go the way of GM Chrysler and Ford and just assume they are better than the competition. Their Customer Service is less than stunning most dealers dont carry alot to chose from and if you want something other than the standard models you have to look very very hard! They should put out catalogs every year with limited editions and new releases. an archive section on this website would be great!
