Dancing.. do you or dont you

I know this is a bit of a silly question but I have a theory aboout it I wanted to test.. (not that its that important either way :)

I dont dance... cant stand it and most of the time I think most people look pretty silly when they dance lol.. and thats not the reason I dont do it.. cos I wouldnt care about that as most people dont (I did used to headbang a bit when I was younger :D)... I mean its meant to be fun.. But any time I have tried it just didnt feel natural to me..

The reason I think this is, is because im a guitarist... So I think that I express myself musically through playing.. And most of my guitar playing friends also dont like dancing either, but not all of them... So I dont think its a rule, but not unusual to find.

I remember my ex saying to me once.. I dont understand, you love music so much why dont you dance.. But for me, if im at a gig I am usually concentrating on listening to the music and what the band is doing more than anything (or what lovely guitar they may be playing :)). If im at a club (which is not usual for me) or say at a wedding and listening to music in that context dancing still doesnt appeal to me in any way (apart from a nice slow dance with a lady ;))..

So how do you all feel about that? Do you think theres anything in my theory about musicians not dancing as much as non players due to expressing themselves in other creative ways?

Ava Gardner, one of the hottest women EVER to walk on earth...

oh yeah, I had a point, she was married to three guys: Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra.

To paraphrase, she said that, of the three, the big band leader didn't dance. Frank and Mickey (BOY Mickey could dance) were a go for dancing, but not Artie.

I used to go to dance clubs and dance my tush off as a youth. I can certainly groove to the music now, but my knees, boy do they tame me now.

OMG, do you think tht's why I suck at guitar? I'm good at dancing and it drained the guitar skills right out of me, omgomg

I'm pretty much with you too.

I remember when I was 12 and figured a gigging career would be with my trumpet. I swore I'd never go to a dance unless I was in the band. Damn near kept that going, and that's 55-plus years ago.

Haha... maybe.. Maybe as you get better at the guitar your dancing skills will get worse.. lol (like a musical yin/yang)

Start off like a dancing queen.. end up like a dad at a wedding :P But playing like Jimi

Mostly agree with the OP, though in my younger days, I did force myself to do a fair bit of dancing. It was simply another way to break the ice with the ladies, but I rarely enjoyed it (the fast variety- yeah, a nice cozy slow dance is a different story).

In my younger days I used to hit the clubs a lot. I obviously didn't go for the music, I went for the ladies. I did enjoy dancing but it was mostly out of necessity as it part of the mating rituals for a lot of human beings.

When I went wireless with my guitar I would go out on the dance floor and have a blast with the girls.

Of course this all stopped when I met my wife.

Wow... Thanks for all the replies.. I didnt expect such a a unanimous response... Im now just wondering if its a man thing :)

So do your male friends who dont play dance? Or is it just a blokey thing as it doesnt look macho?

40 yrs ago would go out dancing & drinking every weekend, {young & healthy} Different music and different dance moves back then. Nowadays I'm like you Rabs, I like to look at the instruments and listen to the compositions and just like Izzy, legs just won't take the abuse, but I do like me some sloooow dancing [thumbup]

If I was to go dancing these days, I would have to wear a bra.

Literally lol'd..

I feel your pain,, I'm working on a nice set myself......

Had to plus you for that one Bill.

As for the dancing... that is a big fat no with extreme prejudice. Hate it, can't stand it, can't stand watching people do it.

Hell yeah I dance...i need a couple of brews in me before i have the confidence but I will get out there and shake my booty.

It's not that people don't like to dance, it's that they are scared they will look dumb, and never get to enjoy it. I say **** that...have a good time and dance!

Yeah I dont buy that..

After all we are talking about the same people who will happily go on a stage and play their own material (or worse a REALLY bad cover lol :P ;)) So I dont think that its public opinion that they care about.. I sure dont. It just doesnt feel natural to me, no other reason.

It's ok. I do.

When you are on stage playing guitar, you're generally just standing there...or bobbing your head. It's NOT the same as getting on a dance floor and having fun.

Maybe the other reason is that "Men" aren't supposed to like dancing...its a macho thing.

SHOOT yeat!

When I was young I was Bisexual...(If I couldn't get it...I'd buy it!).

Sounds like something my Dad told me years ago, I was going out to do my thing on Fri night and he stopped me and changed my life with these words of wisdom: "Don't give it away...Sell it!" [thumbup] +1 If I could plus you more than once, I would [biggrin]

Maybe its cos I grew up during the 80s and had to live though such dancing crazes such as...

LOL :P

enough to put anyone off dancing for life :)
