EthanBrackett
so, i ordered some covers from allparts for my flying V pickups, and the neck was perfect but the bridge just didn't want to do it. so, i put the poles up against the cover holes about a hundred times and thought about it and i decided i'd just drill each hole just slightly larger. and i got the cover to fit. I've not potted them yet, and I've check on my amp and i don't hear any monophonic here is a picture of the the cover on the pickup so you guys tell me if anything bad will happen if i where to pot this. the body of the guitar both covers fitted on. cjsinla
First, I assume you mean you plan to dip them in wax? If it aint broke don't fix it. I've put covers on the pick ups of two flying bees and haven't even messed with potting or anything and they seem to work just great. I can't believe that potting them would actually hurt anything but I would play them for a while first and see if they even need it.
EthanBrackett
Thanks for the reply, i suppose i wasn't clear after rereading my original post, what i meant to ask was would the extra space in the holes meant for the post cause any issues to the tone of the pickup after it was potted. Yes Wax potted. (i kept on typing potter ugh)

Yes Wax potted. (i kept on typing potter ugh) I can't believe that any space will cause a difference. Some people might suggest that putting the cover on is going to be the biggest difference. Btw, What model flying V is that?
EthanBrackett
Its a 2006 Gibson Faded Series Flying V retrofitted to '67 specs... what i've done Stop bar bushings removed and filled Ground wire moved to bridge bushing short vibrola added. knobs changed to silver inlay (witch hat knobs are also correct) pup covers installed(working on that) and an ARB-1 Bridge (okay its not an ARB-1 bridge but a roller bridge with the vibrola gives the guitar amazing sustain.) copper shielding tape on order, '67 V's had a brass shield in the control cavity. I got a wealth of knowledge on the '67 from this website My link1967-flyingv website
Kennis
If you're going for an authentic 67 V wouldn't you need new pickups entirely?

Kennis
i would. but i prefer the pickups ive got. and i don't have 300 bucks or so to drop new pups in. you should be able to get a couple of Gibson burstbuckers for less then half that on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-Gibson-Burstbucker-Pickups-1-and-2-/121072440432?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1c307ad470 I LOVE the BBs in my paul, and the vintage tone is priceless. could probably sell the 496r and 500t you've got for about 50-100 as well. just sayin'. I'm crazy about DYI customizing my guitars these days, and the pickups do so much to give the guitar the right character. anyways, good luck with your project
Riffster
Yea, the 500T has 52mm pole spacing while most humbuckers have 49mm to 50mm spacing, it is referred as F-spacing or Trem spacing. Your humbuckers are already pot-waxed, the usual pot-waxing is done without the covers on. You can re-do it with the covers on but you do not have to.
