jt
Hello, all. For those wishing a virtual seat on the Kalamazoo Gals tour, I offer: The first of three articles in a series in the Kalamazoo Gazette. This Friday, March 8 the NPR Soundcheck program will air a Kalamazoo Gals special program. The producers are pulling out all the stops for the program. During my interview to be recorded tomorrow, the station will be phoning one of the three surviving Kalamazoo Gals so that she can join the conversation. Then Wednesday Soundcheck interviews Mamie Minch, head of the repair shop at Retrofret in Brooklyn, NY and a true, modern Kalamazoo Gal. The assembled, produced piece then goes out Friday. There will be more fun in the coming days, Tuesday evening at 9 pm I do a live, Twitter interview with Guitarkadia and Friday evening I appear on a CNBC television show (details soon). Red 333
Congratulations, jt. It must be very gratifying to have your book get such attention. Not only for you, but for the gals themselves. During the war, they took on a necessary job of work. They certainly never could have imagined that the results of their efforts would take on such significance and be so appreciated all these years later. I'm sure the attention is delightful to those gals still with us, and that they are thankful to you for shedding light on their previously unknown and unheralded contributions to an important chapter in American and world musical instrument history. jt
Thanks, folks! This was an extraordinary day for me. Sitting in an NPR studio in NYC chatting with one of MY Kalamazoo Gals about the historical import of what she and her sister Gals did moved me to tears. The show, sans my happy sobbing, airs Friday on Soundcheck. Details to follow.
duluthdan
JT - just finished reading your book. Very touching, I got the feeling this was written by your soul. Enjoyed it very much - thanks for doing all the heavy lifting, I will be dreaming of Banner Gibsons for months, okay, maybe years.

And, yes, I really did try to pour my soul into the project. Yesterday was very moving for me. While I was in NYC's NPR station, the Soundcheck show host, John Schaeffer, phoned one of the two surviving Kalamazoo Gals and we chatted about the project. Very cool. I go to Kalamazoo in a couple of weeks to give a talk at the Kalamazoo Fretboard Festival and host one final afternoon "tea" for the families of all of the Gals. jt
Tonight, I'll be talking “Kalamazoo Gals” live at some point during the 7 to 8 pm segment of “News 4 New York.” I'm told that the program “can be seen on Channel 161 on Time Warner systems in the city” and is “simulcast the show live on NBCNEWYORK.COM.” It’s actually all media appearances all the time for me today. The NYC NPR program Soundcheck will air an in-depth Kalamazoo Gals story today and I’ll appear on NPR’s Marketplace to talk (and do a bit of picking) about CITES and guitars. trvlr
Caught the news clip simulcast - great job. Very interesting that if the guitar has the banner, it was built by one of the Kalamazoo women. Didn't know that. Congrats on the interview

It may sound corny but after reading the story of these guitars, I feel like it is a privilege to own a Banner J-50. Never felt that way about s guitar and I have owned some doozies in my lifetime.
