serbon
I'm still inexperienced when it comes to identifying fake Gibson guitars so I need a second opinion. Is this SG fake and if it is, why? Thanks!
BigKahune
. Pics aren't the best and your missing a shot of the backside of the headstock. But from what I see in those pics, looks like a Faded Special (Worn Brown) that was modded with a pickguard, TRC, speed knobs and black tuners. You can send the serial to service@gibson.com and ask them to verify and give you a description of the guitar in their records.

BigKahune
. Same year - 2004 - as the body shot I posted - for sale at Music Zoo - http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/6395/2004-Gibson-SG-Special-Faded-Worn-Brown/ The stamping looks right as well as the visible joints on the back of the headstock. A really different look with the tortoise pickguard, TRC and black tuners. Looks genuine to me.

BigKahune
. The Guitar Dater site is just a decoder to translate the serial. It doesn't have access to Gibson's records to verify if the serial was used on a legit Gibson guitar. The only way to verify that is to ask Gibson. For more recent serials Gibson's records usually include the model, finish, hardware and electronics. <edit> . I just want to add that Gibson warns Guitar Dater gives misleading info - http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/beware-web-sites-722.aspx - Gibson has issued legal notices to the Web site to simply post a disclaimer but they haven’t responded. . sgplayers
It looks real to me also. if it is a fake then were going to have to call Gibson before we buy used guitars from now on.
