StuRat
Hi All, I just picked this up at the weekend (Traditional Pro II)and I was so intrigued about the beautiful flamed top and color that i totally missed what was happening up top. The Les Paul decal is really positioned way far down compared to my other Standard. Even to the point where part of the “L” is under the Truss rod cover. It’s obviously not a problem to me right now as the guitar sounds and plays fantastic but will someone question this as a fake it I ever try to sell it… not that I will but just curious. I toured the factory last May and according to Gibson something like this would have been scraped before it even got on a body??? Any thoughts…
BigKahune
. Welcome. Gorgeous top. And a great looking Trad. Yes, that LP decal - the lower loop of the "L" is below the line between the two "E" tuning posts, it should be above it. I wouldn't worry about it. There's always some variability here and there. If everything is fine, and you like the playability and sound, I'd keep it. Gibson will have the model, finish, hardware, and electronics on file with the serial if it ever needs to be verified. Congrats on a beautiful LP. .

Congrats on a beautiful LP. . Thanks BigKahune, Yeah i figured it would be traceable through Gibson, I have the case, paper work and original box it came in... It was signed off by Gibson in February of this year and they had just hung it on the wall @ GC... It was marked as a Studio so it only paid $1350 for it with the case... i shouldn’t really be complaining… they told me it should have sold for over 2 grand ….. I compared the peghead to my '94 (’60 Historic) Flametop and there was such a difference in the position…. Whoever put it on must have had one hell of a hangover that day… lol... I never play the Historic as i worry about digning it so this one will be a player, Im pouting a Bigsby on it one night this week with a Vibramate as to not hole it up.... here is my Historic... The washed out looking pictures were taken with my camera phone, the one blacked out was with my nice cam...
BigKahune
. Absolutely love the flame on your historic - the way it rolls out at the edges of the lower bout is beautiful. Haven't seen figuring quite like that. Post us a pic after you get the Bigsby on. .

Thanks, that's my Wall Queen, lol, I will post once the Bigsby is on the Trad, it was ordered for the Historic but I never put it on...
pippy
Hi and welcome. Firstly; the R-I's often have the silkscreen further 'up' the headstock than the USA range and secondly, on this very topic as quoted by a former Gibson employee during the McCarty years to Tony Bacon; "Old Ladies Don't Measure Up"......i.e. the placement of both the silkscreen and even the MOP Gibson inlay was traditionally done 'by eye' so there is bound to be differences from guitar to guitar. P.S. Nice R0. Real Shame it doesn't get played....... P.

P. Thanks, This one is just way LOW... lol... but it's all good. I'm sure if i did sell it someone would question it. But oh well, i rarely sell a guitar.... I have 10 Fender Strats (3 are Custom Shops) and all the Fender logo's as all over the pegheads... lol, no 2 are the same... I only had my Historic to compare as my other Pauls are Customs.... pippy
Funny you should mention Strats. I bought a '64 in 1980 and I thought all the original re-issues (from around '82-on) had the Logo in the wrong place....then it dawned on me that not ALL the R-I's could have the same error. Guess what. Yup. MINE was a bit higher than usual for the time. It took me a while to get used to that idea... Gibson-wise; my R9 and R0 both have the silkscreen in roughly the same place; this is in a different place from that of my 1960 Classics which have theirs in roughly the samplace as each other. This seems to hold true for most USA / Custom Shop LPs IMX but there are always exceptions. Yours, admittedly, is lower than usual but nothing to worry about. You'll also have noticed that the M O D E L wording of the R0 is spaced wider than on a regular LP and uses a different, narrower, font. This is another distinction between the USA / CS models. P. StuRat
hahaha, just looked at my 2 Customs and both are different too. But one is a '76 and the other a '91... Different font style, different diamond and one has a dot and one doesn’t, even the TR covers are different...lol.. had the '76 for 30+ years and the 91 since about 94....never even looked or noticed....Damn the '76 is 37 years old.... never thought about that either......
