Some fun and mutual learning - (don't) name that tune

This might be fun. Post some tab without telling what the tune is. If you know the tune just by looking at the tab, keep quiet for a bit, if you work it out, say so but don't give the answer. Hopefully we can all learn a tune or two trying to work out what it is...

So, this is the beginning of a well known solo, perhaps one of the best known......

b=bend
s=slide

___b______________________________b_______________s____________________________
--------12-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------15-12-------------------------------------3-----------------------------------
-14/16-----------15-14-12-14-12-14/16------------2/4---2-0-0-2-0-0----------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------2-0-2-0-------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------2-0--------
---------------------------------------0---0-------------------------------------3-0---0

If anyone wants it I can post the rest of this solo.

I'm learning it for an upcoming gig. I promise I didn't goggle it if I am right.

It would be hard to Google with the multiple lines. You obviously missed the bit about not giving it away. ;)

Damn, sorry Farns. I was so excited about showing how smart I am I forgot to absorb your whole post. [unsure]

OK, here's another one. A section from perhaps the best known southern rock tune in the world?...

Only fun for TAB players. <_< <_<

True, it's not hard though. Think of it as a timeline reading left to right. The lines are the strings and the numbers are the fret numbers, so

-----------5
---------4--
-------3----
-----2------
---1--------
-0----------

Would mean playing the 6th string open, followed by the first fret on the 5th string, then the second fret on the 4th string, then 3rd fret on the 3rd string, then 4th fret on then second string, then 5th fret on the first.

/ or \ are bends or slides up or down sometimes a b or an s is placed above the tab to clarify. H is often used to show a hammer on (ie 3h5 would entale playing the 3rd fret and hammering on the 5th). A p is used the same way to indicate a pull off.

If you see fret numbers stacked up it indicates a chord. So...

-----0
-----0
-----1
-----2
-----2
-0-0-0

Would indicate hitiing the open 6th twice and then hitting an E major open chord.

To me this is better than tabs. This guy plays something really close to the solo then slows it down. I have to admit, saves time compared to what I used to do back in the 70s where I would take the normally 33rpm album and slow it down to 16. Or more recently using tabs. Tabs are tedious to me. Videos of other people are great IMHO.

I have a gig coming up (it's a once a year thing) and I'm having to literally "cram" to learn the songs in time. [scared][unsure][biggrin]

Now you've gone and highlighted the mistakes in my tab! I did it all in my head, shouldn't have.

Sometimes artistic license is good to relieve the pressure.....and ...there parts of that video I thought I might have been having a stoke or some weird 70's flashback.. [scared][thumbup]

Right then. This one 'll make you chuckle...

-------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
---0-0-----------------------------0----
-------3-2-3-2-0-0---0-2-0-2-3-2-----3-3
-3------------------3------------3-------
-------------------------------------------

Then move the whole lot up a 4th (up a string)

-------------------------------------------
---1-1-----------------------------1----
-------3-2-3-2-0-0---0-2-0-2-3-2-----3-3
-3------------------3------------3-------
-------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------

Someone else must do one. I want to learn some lead lines out of this.

Here's one, it's an intro lead: I've taken out all but 1 chord since you want it to be a bit of a puzzle. I figured if I left the diminished in there, it would be a give away (not). I couldn't figure out how to put the diminished chord in the correct location. Oh well, makes it harder. [biggrin] The location of the chord is not correct.

If you put the tab inside code tags <code> and </code> but with square brackets, or use the <> button, it uses a unispaced font (nearly) and the spacing is much closer to how it looks as you type it. I am giving a lesson this evening and this doesn't work on my phone because the narrow screen causes the lines to break up, so I'll try this tomorrow and see what it is. Thanks

Remembered this thread and learned that intro. Thanks Tman, I must think of another one to post.
