Have you tried them? Thats usually the best way to tell..

The Classic has the slim tapered neck with quite hot pickups... The R6 I think has a thicker neck and more vintage type pickups (p90s?)will probably hold its value slightly better).

Both are great guitars so it depends on which feels and sounds better to you.

(oh and id go for the Classic probably, but thats just me :))

The necks are so very different in feel the only way to choose which suits you best would be to try them both.

If you think that you could live with either then the R6 would probably be the sensible choice but the 1960 Classics from this period ('89 - early '95) are, neck-thickness and p'ups apart, very similar in spec to the re-issues.

It's worth bearing in mind that at this time the 'Classic' was 40% more expensive than a Standard.

I have no chance to play them, just want to buy and must to chose. It will be blind date :) Furthermore I am just a beginner, don't understand so much, but LP always was my dream guitar so want to buy it for my Birthday :)

Hello! If it's going to be a blind date, what I recommend is to check out Youtube videos of similiar guitars. Humbucker-equipped LPs are more versatile instruments than the ones with P-90s. The latter sound great too, but they do not fit all genres so easily than the humbucker guitars. You should definitely check them out! Cheers... Bence

Some people might be surprised by this because I love an R6 but I am going to recommend the Classic. If you have never played either type it is less likely to be an unpleasant surprise. The R6 neck will be huge, like a baseball bat, if you've never played one you will almost certainly not be expecting it to be so thick. Also, everyone is familiar with a pair of humbuckers but not everyone is familiar with p90s. All that said, I concur that the R6 is probably the better deal and a beautiful guitar to boot.

Thanks for advice! Today I was in Gibson shop to try '50s and '60s neck, both are comfortable for me. The 50's feels a little bit better in my hand but '60s is also good.

Then the Classic plus, definitely. All of the advice is good and everyone is going to have a different opinion. Having just recommended you get the Classic, I confess my LP is a 56 reissue custom with P90s and the fatter neck and I love it.

I must admit I'm a little bit confused, jdgm.

Personally I'm a fan of the slimmer neck of the R0's and 1960 Classics but if I preferred a meatier handful then an R6 / R7 / R8 / R9 would be my choice. Not an R0 nor a 1960 Classic.

In fact I'm debating whether to sell my own 1993 R9 because I still can't get used to the thickness of the neck.

I really, really love early 1960 Classics. I have two myself.

But if the OP likes the thicker neck of an R6 then that would be (IMHO) the more sensible choice in this instance.

I'm not surprised, reading my own post back!!

I was thinking about that classic humbucking sound and the slimmer neck which perhaps are 'dream guitar' qualities!

When I was shopping for my LP I didn't have a guitar with P90s but did have 3 with the 2HBs. And then the one came up!

It's a tough call as they both look great!
