marshall fx loop

I've just discovered something interesting. I plugged my tuner into the fix loop on my jcm2000 head. I have discovered that it receives a signal with the fix loop off and the fix mix control on zero. I guess that the switch and mix control must operate on the return. This strikes me as odd, anyone got a logical explanation why they did it this way?

I've had a JCM2000 for about 12 years, and not once have I ever plugged anything into the Fx loop... v0v

hey Farnsy..

my hunch is the variance in a serial loop verses parallel loop wiring.

(you may very well have a parallel loop). The series loop would most likely cancel if there was no return, the parallel loop may operate independent.

My JTM60 has both. the parallel has a mix control, the series loop does not.. I can do the same with the parallel loop, series, unless I complete the loop, it cancels the signal.

do you have a FX mix or FX level control somewhere? That might be a clue but it's not an absolute. (my goldtone has both too, but there is no mix/level for either FX loop.)

you would want to chase down your specs on the loop to be sure..

Yeah, it is parallel. Just don't understand why the switch and mix control effect the return instead of the send. Seems weird.

well Farns, I really don't have the technical answer either, I can only agree that it does seem on the return verses the send. When using the parallel you usually set the "mix" or similar control on the effect 100% wet. With the mix control on them, you then dial in the desired amount of signal you want coming back. With a Series loop, the wet/dry ratios are all established on the effect.
