Izzy
Before I get in trouble, here are the pics of the Parker Nitefly: I'm conflicted because I like the guitar but after playing on simple, classic (wood) guitars...this one sounds.....steril? There is something missing... It is SO fun to play! Its magical electronics allow it to sound like an acoustic or a metal guitar and it isn't heavy, though the neck is FAT...but I feel like I'm in a brand new italian sports car with the lates technology. I'm used to driving old muscle cars and this feels over the top
T Bone
Sounds like you're saying it has no "soul". But then, you also seem to be saying it's a lot of fun to play. And a guitar with unique feel and sound can take your playing in different directions, and inspire you to produce sounds you'd not imagined. Sometimes soul is over rated (besides, not like it's your only guitar). Enjoy it!
jdgm
Great guitars - I'd love one - I'm envious! Have a wonderful time!
retrosurfer1959
Congrats - nice thing about electric is with amp changes and effects you can hange the sound dramatically. For the first few days your hearing it's sound, then you have to tech it your sound. parkers are nice they always seem too lite and too small to me but your not 6'4" or 245 pounds so that probably won't be a issue with you. So congrats and enjoy playing it
Versatile
HNPN-fD... Composite guitars have been discussed at great length and will continue to be... IMO the 2 big players are Parker and Ovation... The Ovation acoustic started out as a durable take for gigging guitarists...and has become a time-tested classic The current Ovation offerings IMO have enough wood(neck and top) to possess that tactile element guitarists wish for... The Parker has been a big hit since it's inception...for it's innovation, style and accessible versatile tones And is used by many big name musicians for good reason One purely personal anti being the use of piezo bridges on solid electrics(like some Telecasters too) Otherwise a great guitar with big potential...as part of a collection... Searcy
Nice going Izzy. A Parker fly is on my bucket list. A friend of mine let my borrow one of his (he has 6) for a few months and I came to love the thing. Fantastic guitar. We had a guitar party here at the house a few years back and did this ridiculous video.
Twiz
Cool guitar. I'd say just give it some time and eventually, the 'soul' of it will come out. You just have to spend some time playing it I think. I'll quote the Rev. Billy Gibbons: "Each guitar has its own character and personality, which can be magnified once the player engages in beatin' it up." krock
Parkers look awesome. Whats the weight distribution like? I've never played one so I dont know how the narrow headstock affects balance

Izzy
@ Versatile Yes, the bridge is what made me feel funny about it when I first saw it. It seems labour intensive compared to my very basic guitars. Also, I've never used a wammy bar and feel bad ignoring the bad a$$ set up for it when all I want to do is lock the thing down, lol. Mind you I did lock it down but it made the strings sound funny so I just left it like it came. The acoustic sound of it when that pup is engaged is really nice. I like that I can go from the acoustic bit of a song to the distortion part of the song with a flip of a switch. Talk about versatile! @ krok It just sits when it is straped on. I pull it up and the neck stays up. I keep it straight and it stays right in place. My SG I gotta use bit of pressure to keep the neck up...ya'll already know what that is like, lol. It's supposed to have swampash body and a mahogany neck encased in carbon glass so it is light but not feather 5lbs light like I'd like, but WAY better than my other girls on the heavy. A good strap and I'll be set for hours of play. As for the soul...I wrote a song on her last night. I think my main concern is the complexity of the electronics and bridge, but I can get over it. Riffster
Keep playting it, I recently bought a used Jeff Waters Flying V and it sounded kind of lifeless, after playing it for a while it sounds great.

I think my main concern is the complexity of the electronics and bridge, but I can get over it. O.K. Folks hereabouts might not agree with me on this........and I already know, thanking you in advance, that it's going to sound completely 'pants', if not worse....... The Parker is new-ish to you, but you already love many things about her. Choose one set of tones you like for any particular 'feel', music-wise. Play her without altering anything half-way through. Play her even more and really get to know how she feels when you play her with that one set of tones. Get to know her. Once you understand each other try a different set of sounds. Go through the same motions but without just "Going Through the Motions". Carry on as above. Pretty soon you will both come to an understanding which will be to your mutual benefit. It sounds crazy, perhaps, but IMX, on almost each occasion that I've found myself with a new guitar, it has worked for me for the last 37 years. JMHO. P. stein
That's interesting you state it lacks "soul"- that's really what a lot of poeple think when they try them. The ones I have tried, that's how I describe them, but, that's also kinda an amazing thing about them. It's like about as much of a blank page, even more of one, than I can usually imagine. Also, just as you describe, my impressions are that it is SERIOUSLY offset, and related, to the playability and ease that they do this or that. It's about as effortless of a guitar, almost too easy to not just play, but do pretty much any sound or lick I might try and get out of it. I mean, usually when I sit with a guitar to try it, hear it, play it, I tend to listen to what it wants to tell me, what it has to say. I play a lick or something, and listen to how it responds. The Parker, it doesn't try to tell me anything. It doesn't talk back or repond to what I say to it. I tell it what I want, and it's already done it. It feels like, "really? it's all me? ALL me? I have to decide evrything it's gonna do, and it just does it?" As for STYLE though, what I see in the pic there with you, that WORKS for you. It not only doesn't look out of place being so radical, it really looks like it goes beyong blending in appropriately, You are making that thing happen. Or that's making you happen. It's STYLE, man. You got it.
