badbluesplayer
So funny how Clapton wanted a Les Paul cause he liked Freddie King - who played a goldtop with p90's, but when he went to buy the guitar, they only had a sunburst one with humbuckers. He didn't know the difference and bought a sunburst one with humbuckers anyway. The rest is history. And later he tried p90 goldtops and didn't like them!! cookieman15061
I always hoped they would release this but the price is laughable. You are paying for a history that's not actually associated with your new guitar.
krock
I thought Gibson monitored this forum. They need to look at the amount of threads in the last few months about the extortionate price of the guitars. I quite interested in who the intended market is for this guitar. A lot of car companies write a little blurb about who they are targeting, I'd be interested in hearing one from Gibson

bonzoboy
These guitars are no doubt aimed at investor/collectors most of whom,if the truth be known are non-playing speculators who buy up guitars like this and sit on them for a few years until some other non-playing collector offers them enough money so they can turn a tidy profit and with the new owner the guitar goes through that process until the next transaction. It's a real pity that guitars like this that are no doubt fabulous instruments, will unlikely ever be held and played by a true musician who would appreciate the incredible tones that could be coaxed from them and the amazing quality and attention to detail, rather they are destined to languish in a gigantic sealed humidor with other incredible instruments, eternally mute doing nothing but earning money for some rich prat who doesn't know the true value of what he has nor what it really was made for. It's simply an abomination. dem00n
I find it annoying when people always assume guitar players with rich money who buy expensive guitars never play their guitars nor know how to play them. That my friends is true ignorance.

Riffster
Actually most professional players collect guitars. Also, there are folks out there to whom $20k is what $2k would be for the rest of us.
bonzoboy
In response to critique of the post I had made,I wasn't "assuming" anything.I was speaking "Only" about the "Non-Playing Investor/Collector" who collects solely to increase his total wealth, caring nothing about what beautiful instruments he has hoarded and about the thousands of musicians who could make use of them in the way they were intended to be used.To assume that ALL the people who collect these guitars certainly would be ignorance but so too is reading something and missing the gist of what was really printed and trying to make someone look the fool. BTW: I also am a collector and every cent I ever made playing professionally-I started at 15 in 1969-I have put into music, either for instruments and related gear or CDs,audio gear etc.Since I had a daytime job,gig money was basically disposable income.Over the years I have amassed-by what by the numbers some rock stars have-a small collection of 30 guitars. Some of these guitars are rarities such as my 1962 Hagstrom Corvette which cost the original owner $750 when he bought it new in Sweden. There were just over 1,400 of these made over a 4 year run.I also have a 1966 Gretsch Tennessean which is a one-off gloss black as all others that I have seen and am aware of were only available in the deep brownish burgundy that George's was.I also have 3-1960s Vox guitars and 3-1965 Fenders plus other vintage guitars.I am a collector of both vintage and new instruments but unlike the unplaying "Investor/Speculators"I play all my guitars on a rotation basis and keep them all in as close to original condition as I possible can.I don't fault famous guitarists like Rick Neilson,Joe Walsh,Billy Gibbons who collect hundreds of vintage guitars-I would most certainly do the same if I had a cornucopia of money-these guitars are appreciated and do get played as time allows and most of all they are loved and appreciated for what they are.My beef is "ONLY" with the non-players who keep classic instruments away from serious musicians-even the maggoty rich ones.Cheers. LarryUK
You lot are so protective. It was a joke. I'm not jealous either. I've no interest in a sig model and I do think that the greed of the West will be its fall. 1% of Americans own 90% of the wealth. Dreadful. But let's not get political. In fact I'd go as far as to say. As the East gets greedier Islam will slip through and take the world through the back door. Then we can have an Ayatollah Les Paul sig. jaxson50
Everyone hates rich people until they become one, just ask the rich socialist Sean Penn, or the rich Arabs, they denounce western wealth, but they sure enjoy it.
stein
I think the only poeple dropping this kind of coin on such a thing are those that HAVE this kind of coin. And if you got 14k to drop on a guitar, I don't think anyone is taking them for a ride. It's a toy, not an investment. If one has 14k extra cash, they likely know the difference. It isn't me, that's for sure. I can't even afford a used Cadillac. As long as there are some extremely rich poeple that have lots and lots of money to spend on these, I WANT them to be spending it on overbuilt rediculas reliced-to-feel-like-Clapton or whoever stuff. Gives my cheap 2k Gibby's more cred, gives the guys who work there more practice, resulting in better guitars for everyone and maybe, just maybe, a cheaper guitar for me.
