Gibson Really hates Canada

I'm pretty sure dealers in Canada have them, this is probably an oversight. As for the contest, there are laws and regulations that make running a contest for people outside the USA a real hassle for a big corporation, which is why most of the time you'll see companies do a US-only contest. I wasn't involved in the decision on this contest so I don't know the answer, but suspect that is part of it.

When we gave away "Von Johin's Real Guitar" in Second Life, Epiphone gave us an Epiphone EF500RA model to use for the contest and agreed to ship it worldwide on my side-company's behalf, making us directly responsible for any regulations. Before I came back to Gibson, my wife and I with a friend formed a business to help consult and bring corporations into Second Life and protect IP in the virtual worlds. That company actually sponsored the contest, and since we are US based only, we have only US regulations to deal with. In spite of all the caution, the winner ended up being in Mississippi. smile.gif

Have you checked with a Canadian dealer about Dark Fire?

No not just Canada but all of us. Well I only make this assumption due to the fact they have lied to us all. Of course I will apologise in full if anybody can confirm that they have got hands on a Dark Fire yesterday 15th Dec? but sadly I think I am right we have all been strung along and stiffed at the last minute.

mike@gibson, I *have* tried to order a Dark Fire in Canada, at Toronto's best guitar store, Twelfth Fret. Four days ago, the store called distributor Yorkville Sound while I was in the store. After long delays on the phone, the store could only report the Canadian price (just under $4,000!!) and could not say if any Dark Fires would be available before Christmas!

They promised to call me as soon as they learned any more from Yorkville. No call.

It's not the first time that Yorkville has been dismal at representing Gibson (it took them MONTHS recently to provide a missing Custom Shop certificate of authenticity) and looking after Canadian customers. They are so bad that I think the original poster is correct... Gibson doesn't give a hoot about what happens in Canada.
