BluesKing777
From the Acoustic guitar Magazine, who send me stuff, a guitar guaranteed to survive Armageddon along with Keef and some cockroaches.... After the dreadful record breaking summer we had here this year, I will have to consider one of these. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNLr3kdXGao BluesKing777. j45nick
You may laugh, but carbon fiber guitars can be quite good, as well as virtually indestructible. Several of us here, including John Thomas (JT) and myself, have travel-size Composite Acoustics Cargo carbon fiber guitars. When I get back on a boat for the summers, a full-size, more conventional-looking carbon fiber guitar is at the top of my list, but this one is great for travel in the meantime, once you get past the look of it. I don't think even Pete Townshend could break it.
BluesKing777
Sorry Nick, but she's not much of a looker! I thought the idea behind the Lucky 13 was good - the Gibson connection.... But it does the travel job well you say? I thought if National made a rezo with a toughened graphite neck instead of wood, it would not only survive airline handling but probably an airline crash. But I wouldn't want to carry it far. BluesKing777.
livemusic
The guitar in the OP looks like a good one. I have a Composite Acoustics guitar and it stays permanently in my truck. If it's zero or 110 degrees, it doesn't matter! Sounds good, too.

jt
As Nick points out, I'm a fan of carbon fiber guitars and have two, one for travel when space is limited (CA Cargo) and another for travel when space is not limited (CA OM style). I consulted with Blackbird on the design of the Lucky 13, providing drawings, measurements, and, of course, X-rays of a 1928 L-1.

BluesKing777
Yes, and with hot lava flowing down the sides of the volcano: Wow, wow and wow and a big WOW!!!!!!!! Just sensational, aren't they? Is there a story why you have hot lava on yours and the one for sale doesn't, JT? Hand painted, I assume? BluesKing777. It's a great sounding guitar and one of the few National Resophonics made of maple (laminate). Yes, hand painted and great sounding. I'm not sure why the difference. BluesKing777
It just came to me.... The Lucky 13 needs a bit of 'tacky' to liven it up (and maybe Nick's carbon fibre). Maybe a few 'Gambler' guitar cards and stuff ....out with the old brushes. BluesKing777.

BluesKing777
Sir, you and I would get along quite well. Thanks JT. I see I spelled Hawaiian wrong! There it is again for the record - I need to have a word to the proofreader. After thinking about it the old "H" shirts (don't want to tackle the spelling again just yet ) were good value - no ironing, dry in seconds, not too tight, zip, bang off you go. Stefan Grossman has a large collection of tacky Hawaiian shirts for his videos and live! Hope they come back in fashion. BluesKing777.

j45nick
I am for any guitar that cannot be the subject of the seemingly never ending discussions of tone woods. Shall we being a discussion of "tone metals" and the impact of different plating on their tonal qualities? Maybe a conversation on the use of high modulus versus ultra high modulus carbon fiber for soundboards? My head hurts just thinking about it.
