mountain2012
This is what I have gathered. Neck sizes from thin to thick: USA thin taper R0 and G0 USA 50s rounded R9 and G9 Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone describe the differences between a G0 and a R0? Also, I'm considering getting a SG Custom Reissue. How does that neck compare to these? thanks Going to the shop and trying these guitars myself is not an option as I live in a rural area.
Riffster
Necks vary a whole lot even within the same guitar model, describing them can be subjective too. You are in the right direction with your list, I would just clarify that 50s and round are not the same thing, 50's is thicker than 60's but still flat-ish with a bit of "shoulders"...round is round like in some USA SGs, actually most. A 60's neck is not necessarily thin, it just has less taper, does not get as fat at the upper frets. I would advise you to go to Marks Guitar Loft website, he posts the neck measurements and shapes and gives you an idea of sizes. If you take notes on the guitar model you perhaps can get an idea. I bought a guitar from him and when I called he described the neck profile for me. Sometimes the neck profile C or D shape makes more of a difference in feel than the thickness itself. My Les Paul and my Flying V measure the same with a caliper, front to back, but because the V neck has more shoulder it feels thicker and beefier.
