kilohertzz
Hey everyone, just curious as to who owns a Gibson XPL Explorer and what they think about these, with standard tailpiece or tremelo? And, is it a collectible guitar? let me know any thoughts you may have on this model guitar as far as the neck, pickups, whatever... Thanks!!! DoomPatrol
I think the 1985 Explorer XPL's are cool. I just got one and is a great guitar which should be increasingly appreciated as time goes on. The one thing that does seem odd about them though, is that they don't seem to be sold with their original hardshell cases very often. Mine came with an aftermarket case as do many that I have contemplated. Cheers, Brent
Guest Farnsbarns
IMVHO I don't think they will ever be very collectible. It's the styling. Very much of its era and if there's an era of design least likely to have its come back, it's the 80s.
axemanfrommars
Here's a pic of my 1985 XPL Custom. Purchased 2nd hand last year, it needed refretting, and I had to waxpot the Dirtyfingers to eradicate microphonics.
