epicurian
ok...is this a stupid question or does noone know the answer?
Nickblues1
I think it's about a 5 to 10 degree angle according to a book I was reading the other day. That is if my memory still is working.
JamesPaul
Each player likely has their own distinct answer for this one. So as with most things guitar - it depends! I favor finding a string angle (or stop bar height) where one gets the best combo of feel and tone. The one thing you usually get a majority vote on is to not let the strings contact the back of the bridge. Over time, this can bend the bridge posts/screws. epicurian
thanks nickblues,i just aquired an sg[a gibby, sorry lol] traded my ricky 320 for it,yeah i know, but it was just too small for me.anyway...i opened her up to make sure it was the real deal, and it is,but in doing so i had to unscrew the the bridge posts and after putting everything back together the string angle seemed a little skewed.next time i guess ill measure things before i just rip in.i tried the gibby forum but there was a problem registering with them,so thanks again...oh by the way i am the proud owner of a casino nat.fin.,a black beauty with gibby style hd stock,a sherry[early korean]"made by gibson", a vsb dot with the 57's which i will never part with because it sounds so sweet, and last but not least a pr-715-12 strung 6,which has been with me since 1983...i love that guitar! JamesPaul
Glad that it helped, Mitch! Between my Dot, solids and acoustics I'm managing cover what I'm playing these days. Although now that you metntion it, I am always jonesing for a used Wildkat! I just haven't managed to find the right one yet. Jim
