When you play guitar, you've got to have fun. And sometimes, there's no better way to have fun on a guitar than to knock out a jazzy swing jam to get your fingers loosened up.

So when it comes to learning how to play jazz oriented swing guitar, there's no better teacher than the undisputed "King of Swing," Herb Ellis. His personal and relaxed style of teaching makes him a great learning tool for anyone wanting to learn how to create flowing, swinging guitar lines.

Ellis has teamed up with Alfred Publishing to bring you Swing Jazz Soloing and Comping, a fantastic one-hour video with Ellis using a 12-bar blues progression as a basis for the discussion and demonstration of some of his most famous guitar lines.

In this segment, Ellis plays his signature swing guitar lines over a simple blues progression in the key of E. Then he talks about his approach to playing using a simple chord formation technique, which utilizes several chromatic and major scales. Sounds complicated? Maybe so, but it's really not. And Ellis demonstrates just how easy it really is.
