I have an ES-339 and I'm not satisfied with the tone pots. They don't seem to have much effect unless they are turned down below 5 and the volume is higher tha 6 or 7.What is memphis wiring? Is it different from 50's wiring? If so, how is it different?

The difference on the MTC is where the capacitor hooks up. On our standard wiring harness the cap is hooked up to the same lug on the volume pot that the pickup is hooked into. On the MTC, it’s hooked up to the lug where the output wire to the selector switch goes. That’s supposed to keep the cap from “loading” the pickup.

Thanks for the reply. Is MTC wiring the same as "50's wiring"?

MTC stands for "Memphis Tone Circuit", which is a new wiring for the ES-339 models our Memphis Custom Shop began using. They simply wire the cap to a different lug on the tone pots to allow for less treble bleed when the volume knob is turned down.

The pots for these models are 300K linear in the volume positions and 500K audio in the tone positions.
