I was replacing my old 1957 Les Paul "SG" or "Special" or whatever it was and went to a big guitar shop in Ft. Worth, Texas. I really wanted the sunburst color, but they were out and I was short on time so got the red one. Guess if Chuck Berry had one I could too 🙂
That is a sweet '66. I have a 1966 ES 335 as well but after reading some info, I'm starting to wonder if it may be a '69. It has the 1-9/16 nut, low crown, open 'o' and 'b' but no dot on the 'i'. I have the trapeze tailpiece like yours and the serial number is 8316XX. I spoke with Gibson some years ago and sent photos, they told me 1966. I'm getting more curious the more I dig around.
