own lots of Martins and Gibsons- surprisingly the Gibson Songwriter has some outstanding bass and top end sizzle...................

don't over think it....just play one or A/B against the D-28..............I don't think a pick up should be a deciding factor....sound and feel is everything...acoustic that is....

I also read that Red Ferguson designed these from the beginning which I believe is around 2003.......and also can't remember the source....you could check with Gibson-
regardless- a very cool guitar with a different vibe then a Martin

Got one a few months back- very impressive- loud and articulate- definitely worth trying out to see if it fits your style- lots of bass and good highs a bit more scooped then
the short scale hog Gibsons- like the size.....not too big or too small.....really like it....and I have plenty Martins and Gibsons to choose from......

It's off only by 1/8" I think.............I think the sound and feel overrides the cosmetic element...........but wanted too get some opinions......I do think any concerns would fade over time
( like us)....................

guys- would it bother you if the back strip on a new Gibson is off a bit - not centered on the heel- everything else is good....plays well and sounds very nice

actually use them on my 2010 Hummingbird- tames the high just a bit- but I go back and forth between D'Addario PB lights and the Retros- might try the D'Addario SX next......the
Retros do seem to take some clarity out so it depends on your playing style..........also I gig quite a bit and the retros do last.......

I have three- the 1960 Historic is a wonderful, musical instrument that has it all.......the Hummingbird Original is a close second.......................the third is a standard ( 10 years old)that I play
out with so if it gets banged up a bit I don't worry.........and still sounds fine and I use with a K&K pick up for live performance.....................if money is no issue either of the first two our great choices

yes- mine did- contact Gibson

Martin Retros. ( lights)..nickels produce a warm sound on a "zingy" guitar- have them on all my Gibsons ( except my J-45 Rosewood)

Just looking for feedback- has anyone changed out the standard Hummingbird tuners out for the "original" open back tuners they are now using on those newer original models?
1. easy fit?
2. did it change the weight of the guitar?
3. do you notice any change in sound? sustain? etc ......

I can tell you that sometimes there is no substitute for surgery- which I put off for years......it's the base of the thumb joint where there was really bad arthritis and no cartilage left............and made fretting with my left hand painful. I took the plunge about a year ago and could not be more pleased- but 6 months recovery was long and not playing drove me batty..............now back and gigging with no pain...........so depending on what you have consult with a hand surgeon if necessary.....

Where are the new Gibsons? Has the factory in Bozeman ground to a halt? Hardly any new models anywhere- anybody have any info on that?

thanks for the feedback..........I notice that the guitar in question seems to have the weight in the neck/ neck joint rather then in the body itself...............as best as I can tell.....I hace
also thought that the lighter the better but not in every case...my 1954 D-28 ( Braz) is a heavy one and sounds incredible.....

Anybody consider this an issue- the weight of a guitar- in terms of sound?? Are the newer Hummingbird Originals lighter in weight then the previous models? Any feedback on this?

Hey guys and girls- just want to get your take on the J-185......pros and cons........considering one going forward.....I do have a J-200 which is a great guitar.....but wondering if the
smaller body changes things up-...........thanks for any feedback..............
