A thing of beauty, inspite of the difference in shades in the book matched face. Could be how the light hits it. The fact it is unique, in some folks eyes, will add to its attractiveness.
I guess some folks won't mind but I try to avoid runout. Especially on a guitar that expensive. Its getting harder to find good woods so stuff that would have gotten passed over 40 years ago gets used nowadays. I guess that's why Martin is starting to replace sitka with Lutz. And the sitka will get used on custom shop guitars (hopefully its the good stuff and not grain with runout).

Hiscox are great cases. I have one and recently got another for my custom Kopp guitar. Order from Andertons in the UK since Hiscox stopped North American distribution. Their website works best if you pay via PayPal.

I usually sit on the edge of a couch to play....and mostly fingerpick and soft strumming...
I find playing any guitar difficult and uncomfortable when sitting on a couch. I’d rather drag in a proper upright chair to play…especially if I’m playing a larger guitar. (And I’ve got a J 200 sized guitar on order…)

Have any of y'all tried to access service at Gibson? Their website says to write to service@gibson.com. I've tried twice and never got a response...

Nice guitar but why in the world use a Richlite fingerboard at this price point? I'd be on board if it was ebony.

Have you checked out Blue Heron? They'll do custom cases...in fact I just looked...they list a Super 400 case for $299.

I don't really know that much about Taylor guitars...

here is a quarter sawn walnut guitar back...

d getting caught up in "this is the only way to cut wood" seems silly.
It might seem silly to you but it doesn't seem silly to me.
Quarter sawn wood is more stable and looks better when finished. Its also more expensive. Plain sawing a log yields more lumber per log. When you're looking for a way to make a product less expensive is to use less expensive components. Walnuts are also less expensive than rosewoods and mahogany these days.
So we end up with a guitar that is at a price point that is in reach for lots of folks.
Just because its less expensive doesn't mean folks don't like it. Lots of people love their walnut guitars. I also have a little walnut end table next to my recliner. Love it and its a beautiful thing.
I do, however, like mahogany better.

Is the maple neck heavy? I would worry about it nose diving on a strap.

I was actually just about to post a very late NGD thread for my J-15. :) It was "born" April, 2014, but I've had it a couple months now, new old stock!
I always considered NOS to be five-ten years old. Its just 2015 now...a 2014 is just a new guitar. My J200 Jr was also born in 2014 but its just new.

Isn't it only on the j 45 progressive? I don't think the fret board and bridge material are the biggest problems with that guitar.
what else don't you like about the progressive?

Looks like richlite has started showing up on J-45 as a fingerboard and bridge material. Is richlite wood?

I like the look of that SJ. I think the pickguard is classy looking. A nice clean look...would be interested to see the back.
Granadillo fingerboard?

(BTW, the SN indicates that my lovely was born in mid Jan of 2000, which makes me wonder, now, what the 1999 catalogue says about this model--maybe the "XT" designation on my label can be explained by something as simple as--they were using up the leftover labels?)
Not sure if you've ever seen the workstation that they use in Bozeman to make up the guitar labels. I would bet that some of the younger members of the forum have never even seen a device like this. ...anyway...I would expect that any label that does not make sense is probably a mistake...

Bozeman update?
in Gibson Acoustic
Posted
I never saw any bombs when I was in Bozeman. But I did see bombings when I lived in Cleveland during the Mafia wars. Remember "Yellowstone" is a TV show.
The Gibson tour was wonderful and informative. That was a while before the expansion...when Ren & Val ran the Custom Shop.
