All good then....keep it, ignore the mark, dry it a while and get the tuners upgraded! (luck of the draw quality but I have the really nice Gotoh Kluson style tuners on my old 37 - someone had araldited the old ones).

A shop here has the new one listed ‘in advance’ - when it turns up, I will try it out.......then buy a used one from someone that bought online and doesn’t like the neck!😆

Would I change the white guard? I know it is history for the white on black early 32-33 and all that but there is a much despised team (that always beats mine) with black and white jumpers! What if I was mistaken for a fan? Phhh! But... I like the old firestripes but not so much the modern ones.....maybe no guard!

    Anyway, enjoy your new guitar!

Out comes my old 37 L-0 next.

    Cool.

How are you finding the setup of the guitar off the rack? Playability? Tone?

Full report! New model Gibson acoustics are a rare thing.

    BluesKing777.

I love it! the set up was perfect out of box, tone is amazing, but I know tone has so much to do with the player especially with acoustic. The neck is good to me, but maybe if it was a hair thinner & it would work better with capo’s & gripping around the neck using thumb as I often do, but I get away with it. The tuning machines are not the most performance friendly, you can loosen them a half turn before it will affect pitch, now I have not experimented with number of string windings or anything, I have not changed strings on it & have not asked Gibson about this yet, but it does stay in tune well.

Well, if you want to sell it and the buyer says: ‘What’s that?’ to your new mark - you can say Murphy did it! 😃

For now though, it might pay to drape a towel or t-shirt over a guitar stand and leave the guitar out? Dry a bit....

P.S. My tuxedo Waterloo has had a hiding since the L-00 Murph was released, let me tell ya.

Good advice, I’ve already put a cloth in the spot.

Maybe email Gibson with these photos attached and see what they have to say about it .

Gibson may have thought of 1,000 ways to test that finish … but users in the real world encounter scenarios that Gibson may not have thought about .

I once had Gibson finish one of my guitars in a completely different color than what I ordered, They took it back and refinished it in the correct color .

I have emailed them, we’ll see how it goes.

So you bought the ‘aged’ model but.....ha ha...don’t want any marks on it?

It is now a bit more ‘aged’.

Haha I’m sure i’ll get a lot of comments like yours as I should expect. I am already attached to the guitar so I don’t really want to send it back, but it was still a surprise since it wasn’t caused from anything I did.

Early on when I'd gotten my 50s J-45 I accidentally left a tuner on the headstock overnight and the pad had a crosscheck pattern.  Next morning I take it off and the pattern remained on the headstock.  As noted, the nitro was still apparently a bit soft.  A few months later or so and it was completely gone--no signs whatsoever.  Wonder if this would likewise fade out over time.

You could try to return it but I'm guessing Gibson will say user error on this.  Bummer though!

Yeah, I had a similar experience with an EVH wolfgang, sitting it on a stand & it left marks, they did fade, not completely but mostly.
If this Gibson did self repair itself I would consider it a miracle.

If they tried to say it was user error, the error would be keeping it in the case.

    Oh, the irony.

Agree that they may be getting them out the door too soon.  Lacquer takes a long time to get to the point where it's not reactive to things like that.

Funny that the case lid strap damage happened to the back of the guitar. Do you put it in the case face down?

Haha, My friend made fun of me when I bought my first relic’d guitar, he said you’ll probably still care if it gets scratched or dinged.

The lacquer impression is on the top (lower right corner) where that nylon strap folds in, the back doesn’t have binding.

So you also have the new L-00 Murphy Lab as well as your L-00 Legend?

Fantastic stuff, please report and compare!

And please measure the bridge spacing (on both guitars) !!! Compare necks!

    BluesKing777.

    Hi BluesKing777,

The neck on the 33ML seems a hair bigger & a bit rounder than the 37L. Overall to my hand the 37L is more comfortable but we’re talking very slight & I love them both.
I’ll have to get back on the bridge string spacing although I’ve noticed no difference.
Tone on my ‘07 37L has always been tremendous (so lively with vintage character, well balanced), I don’t believe it has a thermally treated top. I suspect gibson only manufactured these type guitars when they got a batch of really good wood.

The 37L’s tone & playability is very similar to the new 33ML an awesome pair! Perhaps at one point I’ll have to make a YouTube video comparing the two.

  9. Dear Gibson Community,

I’m trying to gather information on my Gibson L-00 1937 Legend (Lee Roy Parnell specs). My guitar is a 2007 which I believe is the first run of this model, it has a few appointments that I do not see in later runs.

    1. A rubbed (non gloss) ambered aged finish,  sort of in between a VOS & a Murphy Lab Light aging.

    2. The case is a Redline vintage style with brass color hardware, smaller than what was issued with 2008-current with Murphy Lab L-00.

    3. Price adjustment, from what I’ve gathered on the internet in 2007 these were priced at $5,499 (map) with later issues price lowered to $4,499, this is from past Musicians Friend & Sweetwater advertisements.

I noticed after the 2007 run the rubbed finish had ended & they were now a gloss finish, the cases changed to a larger remodeled vintage case with chrome hardware & the price decreased.

My conclusion is the price was lowered because of  less time spent doing the rubbed aged finishes. The case reengineered to have vintage accurate hardware with modern protection.

If anyone has any further info about these guitars please chime in. 😊

  10. I have a 2006 Gibson Custom Shop LP SG Standard that has the same issue, although the guitar seems to play well I am prevented from lowering the action any further because of a too shallow break angle from the Maestro to the bridge. When I bought the guitar new I didn’t know anything of this issue other than noticing how high the vibrola arm sits off the body unable to close case while the bar is facing the back.

The thing that really made me aware it was an issue was my purchase of a 2020 1964 Gibson Murphy Lab SG where the Marstro is set up perfectly. I’m just starting my journey to see if Gibson will help resolve the issue or not being the guitar is probably out of warranty in 2021, but the seller photo at the bottom is proof the guitar has been like this since it was first purchased.
