ES 339 Tuning

There are a number of possible answers to this - but would vary by your degree of experience as a guitarist.

To a beginner I'd ask if the same string gauge is being used - and then suggest that the nut might be a bit tight on heavier strings than "stock." I'd also ask if he/she stretched the strings as part of changing them. I'd ask if the nut or the bridge (or stoptail) seemed loose - and ditto the tuners.

To an intermediate I'd suggest there may be a bit of a "catch" in the nut of a new guitar and that perhaps a soft pencil lead marking in the string channels may help. (I see cutting of the nut "slots as a "I'd rather not if I don't absolutely have to" solution.)

But first in either situation, I'd ask if all the strings are going out of tune - which suggests something having to do with the guitar as a system - or if just specific strings. Since the 339 is a "semi," it should be as stable as a solidbody.

Just some ideas there Aeg, for you to think about...
