sumner77
I have no interest in this other than observing that the 1953 J-45 that Gruhn has just listed seems a very good price to me. Some overspray on the back and sides, but original top. Generally when Gruhn says something sounds excellent, it does. If it has no repair issues this is good deal, and a beauty. I'm tempted, as it's a birth year guitar, buy I have too many.
ryanfender
Yeah, I saw that too. If I had the cash together I would get that one. It looks like a good one.
Modac
I wonder if the bridge is original? I think a '53 should have a thru saddle, not a drop in.
TM
Yes, that does look like a good buy. The bridge looks original to me. I think about all 52s have thru saddles and perhaps some 53s. There have been quite a few of these era Gibsons on ebay that have been priced good. I too have a guitar surplus. Great time to buy if you can. henry_lee
Howdy - Thanks for posting this thread last night... I could hardly sleep! lol... I called Gruhn today and got an in-hand description. Sound like a great guitar, but a little more than just "overspray", perhaps refinned back, sides and neck - relic'd to match the top. Was almost ready to pull the trigger but my previous experience with vintage guitars tells me to wait 'til the perfect one shows up in person - locally or in person if possible - and do what it takes to get it. But again, it sounds like a killer guitar. Thanks for the heads up! Henry Lee
tnathantaylor
That is a great price for that guitar. Someone should snap it up. I just picked up a 53' and it is a killer. The bridge is original. The drop in saddles started in 52'. Tom
