New Dishwasher

My FIL helped a neighbor lady by installing a new, automatic, dishwasher. She was pleased with his work. The thing worked as described, no leaks etc. It was an energy saver and everything.

A week later my FIL runs into the lady in town and he asks how the dishwasher is working. She said, "Well let me tell you..."

Apparently the first time she put it through it's pots and pan cycle, she noticed it had been running quite some time. The old washer took about 45 minutes to run through the wash cycle. This thing ran for 3 HOURS!!!. She called the manufacturer to see about returning it for warranty or getting it worked on because something was definitely amiss. The Customer Service agent told her that 3 hours is normal. "It's an Energy Saver, after all."

I got this second hand from my wife. She did not find out the name of the manufacturer.

How on God's green earth can quadrupling the wash cycle time save energy?

Maybe NeoConMan can shed some light on this....
