GeeMan
Has anyone tried the EMG HZ/H4 on this guitar or upgraded on their own axe? I want to switch out my pickups on my LP Studio. Or should I stick to the EMG 81/85 set? Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Glen
IntelligentAl
Sorry, i haven't tried them myself. But if they're good enough for Zakk Wylde then they can't be too bad!
SkEpTiKaL
The HZ/H4 pickups are said to be a tad bit weak. The main reason is obviously that they are a passive pickup and the EMG 81/85 that Zakk uses are active pickups. IMO, EMGs deliver a mean metal sound and really help to clean up distortion and pull it together. If metal is your thing, consider installing the EMGs. You may want to have a professional guitar tech install these pickups, since a 9v battery cavity will need to be carved in to the back of the guitar. If you're looking for a mellower, more classic sound, either stick with the HZ/H4 or drop in a set of your favorite pickups and put black covers on them for aesthetics (don't know how well chrome/nickel will go with the black/white paint scheme.)
