Replacing Switch Hardware on Epi ES-175?

Recommended Posts

I've decided to replace the pickups on my Epi ES-175 and would like to replace the switch, output jack, and pots at the same time.

Will the Switchcraft Straight Toggle switch fit properly with just the stock flat nut? I was looking at the AllParts Switchcraft EP4367-000 in the local guitar shop, but it looks like the threads will be way too shallow to poke through the guitar's top. The guy in the shop said to use the "deep nut" with the Switchcraft and it'll work properly. Has anyone successfully replaced the stock switch on the Epi ES-175 with a Switchcraft switch and can offer advice? Do I also need the washer?

Also, when replacing the output jack, does the Switchcraft #11 output jack work or do I need the #11L? The guy in the shop insisted the 11L is necessary.

Many thanks in advance to anyone that can provide information!

I just re-wired my epi les paul special sc

http://forums.epiphone.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=16167

with this kit:

it uses a switchcraft jack, switchcraft switch, and cts pots....

I had to open up the holes for the jack and pots with a file... The jack fit just fine with no hole adjustment...

when switchin from cheap chinese parts to USA parts, be prepared to making the holes larger to accompdate the USA parts...

I hope this helps.. I know that it may not...

Thanks for your reply Brian.

My problem is that this ES-175 is an archtop. The top is laminated maple multi-ply and feels quite thick.

Do I need switch 11/32?

Or will this switch 7/32 work?

Does anyone know?

Just wondering what kind of pickups you are installing and what type of sound you are going after?

I'm installing a Gibson Classic 57 in the neck and Classic 57 Plus in the bridge. I'm looking for a versatile sound from jazz to blues to light rock. Strings are D'Addario EXL115W which I find are fairly versatile.

You've got a deeper archtop than the 2 that I've wired up' date=' but I always recommend the 11/32. If not for the fit, it's wayyyyy easier to work with through the f-holes.[/quote']

Thanks for your reply, bynapkinart. Do I also need to use the deep thread nut at the link below, or is the 11/32 switch deep enough to use the stock flat nut?

the threading should be deep enough, but I love the look of the deep nut so I use it anyways. I leave the stock nut on there, screw it almost all the way down, slide the switch into place and screw in the deep nut. if you try to just screw in the deep nut nothing will grab and youll have a floppy switch.
