luvgibson
Hello Gibsonites everywhere, Why is the gold plating on Gibsons finest now so thin? Compared to a 1998 ES350T which has deep gold plating and rich in colour my new 2010 ES355 plating is very thin and pale looking. Surely a premium guitar like this should have a better finish on the metal work. I,d surely be happy to pay extra for that deluxe finish. Don,t get me wrong the guitar is fantastic and plays real well but the cosmetics have got to also be right!!Right?? With great respect I hope the Gibson CEO also reads these forums. Big Ron
I think most recent gold plate has thinned down. This is a common complaint on Bigsby's over at the Gretsch forum. I find it really sad that a $19 Timex can have a gold (at least gold colored) plating that will last 20 years on your wrist and a umteen thousand dollar guitar's plating wears thin and tarnishes almost immediately.
