The Vintage Gibson G-3 Grabber styled Bass guitar came in a range of different colors and an optional maple body . The alder-bodied natural basses being the most produced color. Even more expensive were the various sunburst models , described over the years as sunburst, tobacco sunburst and antique sunburst with Antique sunburst being the rarest most desirable color sought after today.Gibson really had their heads screwed on right with the aspects of the bolt on neck. As opposed to just using a large wood screw that went straight into the neck ,Gibson used a threaded screw that mated into the neck itself with threaded inserts, very top shelf indeed. The Pickups are really cool as they are made of see - through plastic with small nuts made into the covers under the guard where the height adjustment screws thread into as opposed to just threading into a bent metal tab, another plus for the design department. Speaking of pickups The G3 featured 3 Bill Lawrence designed single coil pickups wired in a Humbucker formation offering amazing sound and tone potential. Forward position activates the front and middle pickups in humbucking configuration. The back position activates the middle and back pickup in the same manner. The middle position activates all three pickups for what Gibson coined a "buck-and-a-half". As if that’s not enough, each pickup also incorporated a 3 point adjustment to pitch the pickup forward or backwards for additional tonal effects.
