DiamondJig
head or combo http://www.vhtamp.com/vht-ultra.html From the VHT site: " to accommodate tone-seeking experimenters, it can accept a wide range of alternate output tubes as well." I'm tring to confirm what tubes can be used. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqyENlWnZQY&feature=relmfu I was shopping the net for it and found some good sale prices and a bonus coupon at http://www.instrumentalley.com/ They have the amp, vdrive and an adapter to convert the 6V6 to an EL84 sweet http://www.instrumentalley.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=vht&Search.x=12&Search.y=10 I have the original Special 6 Combo which is a great little amp VHT is a great company, the 10' speaker in the combo shorted out and they replace the whole amp within a week
DiamondJig
The Special 6 Ultra Combo and EL84 adapter landed on Saturday. A lot bigger and heavier than I expected. Great build, plywood all around, hand built point to point wiring. Custom made 12" chrome speaker with a massive magnet (a bright sound we'll have to see how it breaks in). Class A 6V6 and 2 12AX7's. The stock Chinese tubes sound good (lots of experimenting as you can use EL84, EL34, 6L6, 5881 ect....), did do a quick test with an EL84 what a great vibe, nice chime. The extra feature of the Ultra are very nice and usable plenty of great tones in this amp as is and lots of tweaking with different tubes and speakers. The line out is tapped into the effects return so you get all the sounds that can be plugged into another Ultra and then another and daisy chain them for more power. I'd love to hear 4 of them stacked and run in stereo 2 a side. For the price it's a steal. If you are in the marker for a small amp you have to check the Ultra out. •Overdrive and Normal Gain Inputs •Overdrive Gain Control •Variable Watts Control •Depth Control •3-position Texture Switch •Tube-Driven Effects Loop •Line Out Jack •6 Watts •One 6V6 Output Tube •Two 12AX7 Preamp Tube •Volume and Tone Controls •Footswitchable Boost Mode •High/Low Power Switch •4, 8, and 16 Ohm Speaker Jacks •Handwired •Mod-Friendly Eyelet-type Board •12" VHT ChromeBack Speaker (16 ohm)
