jk441
Hi guys, I own a Les Paul Ultra II from Epiphone and I must say it is a great guitar :) But what I want to say and talk about today is not how good the guitar is but rather the feel of it's neck. On the spec page for the ultra II it says it's neck profile is a Slim-Taper profile but I think for some reason it doesn't feel the same as the Gibson's Slim-Taper profile. I have tried 60's Slim-Taper profile Gibson Les Paul Standards and the Les Paul Classic Models of Gibson (Now discontinued) and I am sure they both had a Slim-Taper profile. I'm not sure if it is just me but for some reason it the epiphone's Slim-Taper profile doesn't seem the same as the gibson's To any one reading this what do you think?? you feel they are the same or a bit different? The neck profiles do vary a lot, even from guitar type to guitar type inside the same company. "Slim taper" does not mean an exact neck profile, just an approximate description of a neck that is thinner compared to the "chunky" or "baseball bat" Gibson 50s style necks. My Epiphone Elite ES-335 and Les Paul Standard Plus have the slimmest "slim taper" necks of all Epiphone/Gibson guitars I have played so far. A fairly thin C shape profile. An Epiphone Les Paul Tribute 60s V3 model I played had a much thicker neck, although it was called "slim taper" as well. My Gibson Les Paul Studio 60s Tribute also has a "slim taper" neck, but this is a more D shape profile, which I wouldn't necessarily call slim (at least in comparison to the Elite Epiphones). A 50th anniversary 1961 Casino I played was much like the Gibson Les Paul Studio 60s, and different from other Epiphone semi hollow bodies like the Dot or Riviera. My 2000 made korean Sheraton has a D shape neck like the Gibson and the Casino, but a bit thicker on the neck shoulders. So I just can recommend to play the actual guitar, and see if the neck profile meets your needs. And play it a bit longer if possible. For example I ordered my Gibson Les Paul Studio 60s Tribute, are was somewhat disappointed in the first moment. I did expect a much slimmer neck profile from the label "slim taper". However after playing the guitar for some hours I found it very comfortable, I just had to get used to it.

Thanks for a great reply :) I'm not actually really complaining about the feel of the neck I am use to it now, since I had the guitar from 2009, but it is that I would prefer more of a D shape like Slim-Taper cuz I kind of like the neck when it is just in between a 59's Round profile and a 60's Slim-Taper.
