Mr. Standfast
Just saw this on Ebay, and cannot figure out whether it is a natural colored Gibson LG-1 from the 1950's or one of the Gibson LG-0's from the late 1960's. Can anyone enlighten me on how to tell? Thanks!
Mr. Standfast
Oh, I will add that it has 19 frets ( believe this is common with the LG-1 and the LG-0 has 20). Sorry I don't have any better pics, or serial numbers. I think the pickguard has been swapped out later, as it does not seem exactly the right shape for a LG-0 or the LG-1. tvguit
Mr. Standfast, this is a refinished '50-'54 Gibson LG-1. The Spruce top with no back strip indicates LG-1 although you would have to verify with the seller that it is ladder braced. The 19 fret board was changed to 20 frets in '55. It has had some very serious damage in a very critical area (by the neck). The whole thing has been refinished and the bridge/PG are replacements. Expect this guitar to need some major work including a neck set. You will also have to fix the previous "repair" which will not be easy. If this were a car it would be considered totalled. They should pay you to take it. This is just my opinion though.
Mr. Standfast
What's whith the white truss rod cover on the head? I have never seen one like that. Yeah... I'm not sure this guitar would be a good buy.
tvguit
That TRC could have been from a Dove around the same time period. Some of them had white covers I think. I am not a square shoulder Gibson guy though.
