Jackfish
Hello all, My Fathers old archtop bought second hand in early 1950s Not worried about value as I doubt I will ever part with it, but would like to know more about it. My extremely limited research so far makes me think late 1940s L-48 ? Feel free to straighten me out on that. Thank in advance for any info. I haven't been able to spot any serial or FON anywhere inside or out.
milod
I don't have any idea - but some 18 folks checked out your pix. After 10-15 overall posts you can enter the Gibson Lounge - which might bring some ideas. That's usually among the most-used section although I think the requirement for posting there is that a newcomer post 10 "normal" sorts of posts to keep out the forks who would hype the forum with a list of 50 ebay items they're selling... Or also try: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/forum/11-custom-shop-es-and-archtop-guitars/ Just a suggestion. m
JimR56
It appears that your research is correct... a '46-'48 L-48. The headstock logo would suggest that period, even though the back on your guitar appears to be maple (?), which became stock in 1952 (according to Gruhn's guide). We just had a recent topic about a '48 L-48, by the way: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/114348-16-archtop/
