Here's my favorite version... yeah, it's the early -mid '60s retrograde sorta style found in the village in NYC... Dalton was a sad lady Day kinda. But figure Bobby Zimmerman played harmonica backup on some of her stuff...

Oh, check her version of "How Sweet It Is."

My wife hates her soprano sax kind of voice... I love the phrasing.

Oh - it's a full combo backup, ignore the 5-string pix although it shows her looks well. I think of her with a 12 string mostly...

Dalton was pretty much a musician's musician in ways...

This production is pretty common for the era... but again I think the phrasing couldn't be much if any better, period.

And <grin> given my age group and general preferences, I love the whole arrangement that's pretty tasteful but "full" regardless.

She was considered a folkie but... I don't think any style or genre label fits very well. I'd call this jazz/pop. Kinda like Lady (billie holi)Day.

Was a time I had friends suggest I should slightly change the words to "why does he write for his money," but the part of the country ain't changed. So I kinda resemble the remark.

<grin>
