Dan U
Hey there, Need some help identifying this Les Paul CS Custom. It's a Custom model with the Custom Shop logo on the back of the head stock - serial #: 5 9199 (space between 5 and 9199) It has an all Mahogany plain top with a dark vintage burst finish. It is quite heavy and has a fatter 50's style neck. The binding is a vintage yellowish. I thought it might be some kind of '55 reissue but then the pickups are not consistent with that - when I received it, it had 2 x DiMarzio pickups in there. I've since installed 2 x '57 pickups to give it more of the vintage vibe it seems to exude. It could have originally come with altogether different pickups but since there is no paperwork with it, I have no idea. I'd like to figure it out - is it a re-issue of some sort or just a one-off custom shop order with reissue specs. Any help would be much appreciated. Dan. WC58
Well it would not be a (true, anyway) 55 reissue with humbuckers. The Historic/Reissue models dropped the Custom Shop logo in the mid 90's, so that excludes it from being a 2005/Historic. But Gibson may use it on special order/one-offs. I can't see the font of the serial. That, many times can provide a clue as to which decade it was built. Perhaps a special order 55 Custom with Humbuckers???.....Gib Cust Serv should be able to shed some light
