This was done so that when using the unit as a sound card you could have a dedicated volume, for instance Itunes or WMP.

Hey Stanton, how about making these essential files more easily accessible to your paying customers? I couldn't DJ yesterday because I couldn't access these necessary files!

There will not be any improvement using 2.5 I would not go past 2(1) series.
