Then you can play Beatles AND Rolling Stones.
This is definitely what I like to do!

I would choose the Hummingbird.
How does the D28 and hummingbird hold up against each other?

Can I turn the question back on you?
How do you like the HD28?
An absolute joy - everything you'd expect of a Martin. Big Boomy an Bassy overtones and the build quality is very high.
I like to play acoustic blues so need that mahogany sound hence me looking around for a Gibson to accompany the MArtin

Hi
I recently bought a Martin HD28 however I have been GASsing for a Gibson to go alongside it..
Having sold a few items I am very lucky to be in a position to buy a Gibson - I will only have two acoustics the Martin and the new Gibson and I want to have two distinctive sounds.
I am thinking of either getting a J50 (or similar variants J45, SJ etc) or saving a little more to get Country Western Supreme (or a Hummingbird)?
Which guitar will accompany my Martin well?

Finally, although it will get even nicer, the top is already a lovely colour brand new. Photos often don't do that justice.
interesting. I always thought it was a bit pale from the pictures.. I love the look of that butterscotch hue from those vintage models. -
Hi all,
I am thinking of either purchasing a brand new Gibson 50s J-50 Original or a used Gibson Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo from 2012.
Anyone have any experience with either of these guitars and what they sound like in terms of tone etc? I see it as Sitka spruce top vs Adirondack and more bling on the SJ but would be get to people's thoughts on both guitars.
Thank you

let me know how it sounds when you get it. I’m thinking about swapping my Martin hd28 for one -

The AJ and Southern Jumbo blow any rosewood Martin I’ve ever played out of the water.
Really? I’m thinking of part exchanging my Martin for the SJ. Are you able to tell me a bit more? -
Anyone had the chance to play this guitar from the 2020 historic series?

And the addiction begins.
I’ve already starting saving for a Gibson hummingbird or a Sheryl Crow.. 😂ive not stopped playing the Martin though.. will need to get the action sorted as I prefer slightly lower. I’m also thinking lighter strings

Hi all,
I have done a lot of thinking and have decided to go with the Martin HD-28 Imagined.
The Gibson Hummingbird Vintage after a poor exchange rate plus postage/shipping, the guitar wasn't that much of a bargain as I anticipated. Although a torrified top would be great, there is too much risk for me not to have the safety of a warranty. One day, I'll definitely get a Gibson acoustic though (either J45 or Hummingbird).
I think I will be getting the HD28 in natural but I did like the look of Ambertone and Sunburst.. The guitar shop owner also informed me that the Sunburst is the last one in the UK!

The guitars from left to right are D-15M, J12-16GT, D-18, 000-28 and D-41. All standard models.
That D-41 one on the end looks absolutely majestic!

The members here simply know there are other fantastic guitars on the planet and the staff allows them to be mentioned. This creates a breath - the Board has lungs and brains.
This is great - it's all always good to get a balanced opinion from people who really know their guitars and understand the pros and cons. Ultimately though its always down to personal preference.. another man's junk is another man's gold!
Yes the choosing stage is definitely exciting and all part of the journey!

I don't know if I dare to say this here
I was a bit wary of mentioning Martin on this forum - Being relatively new here, I feared I was going to get lynched by the good ol' Gibson gang whilst someone was strumming rolling stones acoustic songs in the background on their hummingbird..
Joking aside - it's a real tough choice.. Both guitars are fantastic and I'd do well to own either one of them..
-
I played a Gibson Hummingbird Original 2020 in a guitar store yesterday and I'd describe the neck as medium to thick-ish. Personally I prefer this despite but other people might differ
Definitely worth you checking it out and having a play on it yourself. I guess it will come down to personal preference and comfort

You need them both.
That is the ultimate goal. I have dreamt about owning both a bird and a Martin since I first picked up a guitar. At the moment, I’m only in the position to own one! Will need to save a few more pennies to get the other.Ok so one more question for you guys..
Should I get the used Gibson Hummingbird Vintage 2017 or a brand new Martin HD-28 Reimagined?

MLO (modified low oval), which the Re HD-28 may have, you get used to it.
strangely I can’t stop thinking about the Martin HD28. The neck profile was definitely different to what I’m used to (I have an Epiphone Casino and a battered old Aria acoustic)How quickly do you get used to it? I was only in the shop for about a hour and it was alternating between the HB and the HD28
-
So I had the chance to play the Gibson HB Original as well as a Martin HD-28 Reimagined in the guitar shop..
Both beautiful guitars and both sounded like a dream. The neck profile of the Martin was something I wasn't used to and the action was way too high.
I am going to sleep on it but I think I am going to pull the trigger on the used HB Vintage..

I'd buy the one that sounds better than the other one.
cant argue with that logic 😄 -

torrified or non-torrified top
I think this is the big decision for me. Is there a significant difference in sound between the two?
I will be mainly playing at home so not much need for pickups. I did not realise the pick guards were different though.. More food for thought!

Get the guitar that feels like an extenstion of who you are
Thank you. I appreciate this advice!

Apologies it appears I got my model names mixed up!
So in essence I am looking to decide between a 2020 brand new HB Original (which is was used to be known as a TV) and between a 2016 HB Vintage (the top of which is thermally aged) with £500 difference. I will be able to play the brand new model tomorrow but will have to chance it on the 2016 vintage model.
Decisions, decisions, decisions! 🙂
Which Gibson acoustic to get?
