  1. Thank you! It's funny a few weeks ago my guy at the shop stopped what he was doing and came into the playing room and said "that's your guitar" when I started playing this. I guess he was onto something. I also love that standard J45- I didn't video capture this, but once the store thinned out a little, I went back and quietly sang some tunes on the HB and that's what really sealed the deal for me. As a singer-songwriter that was the big thing for me. I have a tenor(ish) voice and the HB clears the way for me. Great story here: way back when I got a 66 Cherry Red 1966 ES 335 for a crazy deal, then my dad left and I ultimately had to sell it. I never got over it. That guitar made anyone who picked up elevate to a new dimension. This last June I turned 50 and my closest friends threw a weekend at my buddy's mountain house. They surprised me with a 1966 ES 335 TD. I was so shocked that I couldn't speak, and even typing this now, I have tears in my eyes. When I picked it up for the first time I wrote one of the best songs I have ever written. I feel that way about the HB- I have it on layaway - I told my wife I wasn't going to buy anything that day, but I did put money down on it. One of my two have sold and the other should be final tomorrow afternoon. Lord willing I will pick this baby up on Friday afternoon!
  2. Great insights here and what a collection. I'm sorry to hear about your partner- I hope I get a lot more years with my honey.
  3. Thank you. What’s interesting is the collectors and Gibson aficionados that I know look down on HB’s as “the Dom Perignon of Gibson acoustics” meaning the bottle is the attraction not actually a great champagne. I’m proud of myself that I have been going back and playing different guitars etc because the very first time I picked it up I knew something was different. I put it on layaway while my three acoustics are up for sale. Yes Leitz Music in Panama City. There is one in Pensacola too. all new guitars. I bought an L-00 from them recently
  4. I had a thread asking could a Hummingbird be the primary acoustic in a studio situation and I believe for me, and what I do the answer is yes!!! This HB standard has been lurking in my heart and sinew for several weeks but I decided that I was going to opt for a J45 standard or 60's. The local shop had all three, along with a J45 KOA and True Vintage. I had played all of these but never videoed myself with my phone playing them, and then going back and listening. This may sound cheesy, but I wanted to see my body language when I played the guitars. As has been the case each time I have played these guitars, the HB sunburst standard just really lit me up. I decided to finger pick with it as a test. After weeks of obsessing and listening to countless songs and videos, I now believe that this is the sum of my "what an acoustic should sound like" for me. What I realized after capturing myself playing these guitars is that they all sound great in their own way. I would be happy to have any of them. Each time I have listened back I have been like "oh man that sounds great". The HB standard was like the girl you just know that this it. I wanted to challenge myself to get away from judging by how the guitar felt at the time and make it more about going back and listening after the fact. The HB still give me a chub! I can't upload any video of me playing (file too large) at 176 mB!
  5. Thank y’all so much. I’ll be honest I have learned in my older age that there needs to be a wow factor when you pick up an acoustic or you want played as much as you wish you did. I think the hummingbird has a wow factor for me.
  6. This is exactly what I am looking for! I guess my voice would be considered a tenor, so to me the Hummingbird leaves room.
  7. I record a lot of Singer songwriter stuff along with Radiohead type acoustic music- think Wilco as well. I’m selling my 1966J 45 and my L-00 and I’m wondering if you think that a hummingbird standard could be a jack of all trades acoustic in a studio environment with not a lot of fingerpicking but a lot of strumming? I have a Martin 0000–15 M, which is a pretty good finger pick guitar. I really want a great strumming guitar. What are your thoughts?
  8. I found out they are making some with LR Baggs which almost necessitates the fixed bridge
  9. I am looking at getting Southern Jumbo Original as well. I have one guy that I’m talking to about a trade for a Hummingbird on Craigslist - I’m totally open to a trade
