1. All good now. It was an easy remedy. I got a set of new USA studs and bushings for cheap and tapped one of them in.
2. I was going to slam and top wrap the tailpiece. You know, since you asked.
3. I got it out with a couple steel dowels. The threads look pretty chewed up on the insert.
4. I took my 04 SG apart to clean it today and when putting the tailpiece studs back in the anchor on the bass side won’t accept the stud. Confirmed it’s the anchor since the post will fit in the other anchor fine. Is this something I could fix myself with chasing the threads or should I just bring it in to my tech? I had a look at Stew Mac but I’m not quite sure what I’d need to clean out the anchor threads.
5. Yep, that’s totally what it is. I didn’t know they sprayed a clear nitro top. I only have poly top Fenders and matte finished Gibsons that have become “glossy” over time so I just thought they buffed the paint in production and didn’t apply a top coat. I’m keeping it since it seems to have above average tuning stability from the other 3 I tried in shops. Thanks for all the replies.
6. Right, that’s what it looks like. I initially wasn’t aware they sprayed a clear nitro top so that’s why I was confused. I thought they literally just painted and then buffed. I’m not even sure what results that would produce I guess, but anyway.
7. It is under the lacquer. It’s completely smooth over the top of it - the clear nitro top coat is in-tact. The rest of that in the photo is dust/loose plush lining from a new case I bought. I could post more pictures, but I can’t get my iPhone camera to focus exactly on that spot.
8. Strange, no photo. Here it is. Thanks.
9. Hello, I bought a new SG Standard last week. First Gibson since my 2004 SG Special I got at 14. Absolutely love it. Stays in tune very well and is only 6.25 lbs. I just noticed this streak of what looks like plain mahogany under the lacquer. It’s not a scratch since it’s below the topcoat. I really don’t think this was there when I got it because I looked it over under a spotlight for about 15 minutes and didn’t notice anything wrong, not that this is wrong. Anyone seen this before? I did some googling and couldn’t find anything. Just the nitro doing it’s thing?
