  1. I have a Les Paul Custom shop Model LPC-AWGH1 The painted Serial number starts with CS 3XXX . It came with certificate of authenticy. It was purchased in Minneapolis guitar center. I was told this was a special run made for them. When I got it I noticed under the painted CS serial number was a slightly visible stamped number under the paint. I recall calling the CS 20 years or so ago and asking what the deal was and I don't remember everything I was told, but recall them saying something like "They grabbed a neck from a 50's reissue model and used it to build this guitar which then had a number painted over." Since I couldn't recall all the details, I recently spoke with and sent pictures to Gibson that had no clue as to how this came to be. When I suggested the story I was told 20 years ago, they replied that they didn't keep records like that. So I wanted to ask if anybody else has ever seen a model from the custom shop like this? Would it be odd that the custom shop would grab a neck that had a stamped serial number intended for something else then put it on a Custom shop model and paint over it with a CS number?
