  1. The 339's are made in Memphis which IS part of the Custom Shop just in a different location. Memphis Custom Shop. The changes you mentioned are mainly because the first run of 500 339's had the decal and the booklet. Over the years as part of cost savings, those things were cut. If you are looking at a 339, it is a Custom Shop build in Memphis. To my knowledge, there has only been one 339 made in Nashville.

  2. Is the Made to measure option still available? Which dealers have custom guitar runs out? Can somone go to gibson HQ and place a custom order for a guitar?

You can not go directly to Gibson for an order unless you are a sponsored artist or big name player. I would suggest contacting Music Zoo, Chicago Music or Wildwood (random order not any particular reason) and ask for a Custom order quote. The program is still alive and doing very well. There are really no "run outs' or seconds as everything they make is made to order for a dealer.

  3. Hi! I just purchased Gibson ES339 Custom Shop, the serial number is CS050323 - I cannot find any clear information about this model... My guitar has diamond inlay on the headstock and I can't really find any pictures or information about this guitar... Can anyone help me out with this one?

Look at the orange label inside the bass side F-hole. I bet it is an ES359 not a 339. CS050323 will "probably" be a 2010 made in Memphis and the 323rd one from that run.

  4. Dear low level staff person, they can do something about these defective pickguards, they can make them from a different plastic, they can make them out of wood if need be.

As a "low level staff person" I am telling you this:

    File a Warranty claim: http://www.gibson.co...t/Warranty.aspx

If you cannot complete the claim, contact the dealer that sold the guitar and they can file a claim for you.

If you feel that the materials used are defective, please contact customer service and have them transfer you to the legal dept. 1-800-4GIBSON (1-800-444-2766)

Make sure you have your bill of sale showing you are the original purchaser of the guitar in question.

I will make sure I mention the "defective" material to Henry next time I see him.

  5. Dear low level staff person, they can do something about these defective pickguards, they can make them from a different plastic, they can make them out of wood if need be. How ridiculous is your statement "They made a guitar to play, not store, and a case to carry it in, not to store it" Just how are you supposed to store it then if not in the case??? If that is so then they might mention

that there is a time limit for storage on the literature.

The majority of purchasers of Gibson Custom Shop guitars prefer as close to vintage materials as possible. Yes Gibson could to use other materials, but have chosen to try to stay true to as close to vintage as possible. What did your selling dealer tell you about a warranty replacement? It sounds more like you came here to start a confrontation rather than gain information.

  6. These guitars it worth over $10,000 it doesn't make any sense that they manufacture a part that is defective under certain conditions meaning it's in its case too long???which is ridiculous. Maybe they need to design a case that lets oxygen in and vapors out at while making it waterproof at the same time. Have you thought of that?

It's just too much money to be spending on something that you have to replace that you thought was a luxury item but it falls apart it's not right!

I want to know what Gibson is going to do about it?

My "guess" is that Gibson will do nothing about it. They made a guitar to play, not store, and a case to carry it in, not to store it. It is obvious that it was stored for a time in poor temp/humidity conditions. Gibson did not make or suggest those conditions. I am sorry for your loss on such great instruments. Check the warranty card on those instruments from when you purchased them new or ask your dealer about a warranty claim.

  7. In 2006, Guitarsale (Woodwind and Brasswind) commissioned 20 short scale AJ's. 5 Maple, 5 Rosewood, 5 Mahogany and 5 in Koa. I got to pick out of the original 20 when they came in and bought a Koa thanks to the excellent auditioning of them by Barry Clark. Let me tell you there was not a "dog" in the bunch. I find it easier to tell the tone of a guitar when I listen to someone else play it before i pick it up. In 2009 I stupidly sold it but in mid-2011 I found one of the Maple ones in 99.9999% perfect condition and grabbed it. I remember that I had a hard time back in 2006 trying to decide which one to get. We can thank Ren Ferguson at Gibson in Bozeman for these outstanding guitars. BTY the left handed guy that was at Guitarsale was John Boles. John left well before Woodwind and Brasswind closed the showroom. I miss those guys at the South Bend store.
